Hi Steve, The Shag roost is best viewed from the Salad Bowl Cafe at the southern end of the cliffs. Best time is late afternoon just before the birds go to roost as they can be seen on the sea and flying backwards and forwards from the cliffs before they settle. Birds also depending on what...

Hi Irene, Thanks for the reply - will keep searching for green/yellow. Green/orange x red/metal was ringed as a juvenile in October on Rishworth Moor and I think you'll find your missing combo is black/yellow x red/metal which is from the same site and ringed as an adult of the 25th October...

Colour ringed Twite, Thornham Harbour Evening all, Since November nine colour-ringed Twite have been recorded in Thornham Harbour – four from Derbyshire, four from West Yorkshire and the one I’m about to ask about. On the 22nd November a Twite with green over yellow was recorded but...

Some good visible migration on the coast today most notablely Fieldfare, Woodpigeons and Lapwing. Unfortunately I was never able to keep a tally today so would be interested in hearing anybody else's. A friend counted 700 Fieldfare south over Hunstanton in what at most could of been a two hour...

Inspired by Rays Jays Dave, Andy & I did our first Cliffs session of the Autumn in the hope of some Corvid action. The first half hour went by with not many birds being noted but towards the end of the second our first flock of Jays passed through consisting of 9 birds. Over the course of the...

The sea is in insane form at Holme! I'd of never expected to see Black-throated Diver, Great Northern Diver, Red-necked Grebe, Slavonian Grebe, Shag, Long-tailed Duck, Goldeneye, Mediterranean Gull, Little Gull (albeit from Hunstanton) and big numbers of Red-throated Divers & Red-breasted...

Thanks for you comment regarding the Cormrants. Must be plenty of fish in the wash currently. Might attract a Humpback! That would be a very welcome patch tick! As I'm sure you are aware you can get some very good numbers of moving Eider in November and yesterday I recorded just under 40 past...

Cormorants Good evening all, Today while sea watching from Holme Dunes (0820 - 1020) I recorded 362 Cormorants (311 west and 51 east). No doubt some birds were counted twice moving between the feeding gounds in the wash and the roost at Thornham Point but numbers have Defiantly sky rocketed...

Does anyone know if any Shags are back at their winter roost in Wells or Cromer (or was it Sheringham)? P.s. Just noticed pictures of the Old Hunstanton Bonelli's Warbler are now up on the Birding World site...http://www.birdingworld.co.uk/Norfolk%20Birds%20Gallery1.htm

It was quiet Jim. There was just nothing to make the birds drop. It was a clear night with little to no fog, no rain and a stiff easterly. After the 1st hour of light I think everything was just passing way above the point of sight or sound for us. No doubt something will be found in the...

3 hours around the wooden cabin at Holme this afternoon and all I got was one call from a Yellow-browed! Other than that there was a Brambling in the pines early on and a Rock Pipit over Thornham Bank. Just to clear in the night to have dropped anything!

3 Turtle Doves at Holme this afternoon. At Titchwell 3 juvenile Curlew Sandpipers, Little Stint, 2 Yellow-legged Gulls and 5 Spoonbill were on the freshmarsh this evening. Can't believe I missed Pec Sand off the list! A friend and myself had it fly from the freshmarsh over to the saltmarsh.

No worries Phil, When I've been sea watching there in recent years the cliff top vegitation has made viewing difficult. Manx shear is the best I've had off the cliffs.
