Today marks the 3rd anniversary of my most significant find at Upton Warren. It was a Friday and I'd spent the day at the reserve and had come back over to the Flashes for the gull roost. Scanning through the Black-headed Gulls I saw a bird that I thought initially was a Common Gull. However, on...

On this date last year April 1st 2019 saw the first Osprey sighting of the year on the reserve. Phil Wood, Phil Quiney and myself were fortunate to see the bird flying above us as we walked along the East Track at the Moors back towards the car park just before midday. The bird didn't linger...

An adult Black-headed Gull from the Polish ringing scheme (yellow ring/black print) - T8E7 was at the Moors Pool yesterday morning. I think this may be a new or previously unrecorded bird at Upton Warren. Also 24H0 a 7 year old ringed in the Cotswold Water Park was seen again at the Moors Pool.

The Jack Snipe are viewable from the East Hide, the largest and furthest away from the car park. Look straight out over Amy's Marsh towards the promontory where the vegetation has recently been cut. There is an obvious black patch where a fire has been lit. The Jack Snipe are usually to be found...

I found another Black-headed Gull sporting a yellow leg ring with black code TR0V at the Flashes this morning. There doesn't appear to be a record of this bird being seen at Upton Warren before. I think it was a first winter. Also present again at both the Moors Pool and Flashes was T81U.
