    Monarch 82ED, a Perfect Ten

Unfortunately I was unable to answer this, as the glasses in my photo are sunglasses, so I'll have to hand this to someone else.

I totally agree about the eyepiece cover. It is very annoying.

    Monarch 82ED, a Perfect Ten

I haven't dropped it but it gives the impression of being a strong sturdy scope. It's certainly not made of light-weight materials: it's weight is its only fault IMO.

    Monarch 82ED, a Perfect Ten

One reason it doesn't sell well in the UK - apart from birders habit of following the herd - is that very few places sell it. I found nowhere where I could look through one before buying. I bought the body from France and the 30 - 60X eyepiece in the UK - at least we can buy the scope and...

    Monarch 82ED, a Perfect Ten

I do have a lot of sympathy for that view. I loved the 15 x starting magnification of my Zeiss Diascope 60mm. However in all other ways it is a fantastic eyepiece with a great field of view and a stunningly bright image so I can live with it. I will say - more because of its weight than the lack...

I chose the 30 - 60X WA eyepiece. In Europe this scope does not come with the 20 - 60X as part of the bundle. The 30 - 60x is more expensive but still the scope + eyepiece came to about £1500 which is about half the cost of a Swarvoski.

I am a big zoom fan. It is available from Holland at a good price for the body only + the 30-60 x .

    Monarch 82ED, a Perfect Ten

The BirdFair is never going to be an option for me due to the time of year. What I'd really like to do it is compare it to mine and a Kowa. Buying nothing is definitely an option. I wasn't actually planning to but this post caught my eye and I am now wondering, if they are such a bargain, I...

    Monarch 82ED, a Perfect Ten

Yes that is a worry as I can't find anywhere where I could test one out. In fact the only place I can find selling them is based in Holland.

    Monarch 82ED, a Perfect Ten

This scope is getting very hard to get in the UK. I wasn't particularly planning on getting a new scope but my Zeiss Diascope 65mm is getting on a bit and now I use a Vortex Razor 50mm when I don't want to carry a larger scope - so most of the time - I have thought about getting a larger scope...
