Any tips on where is best around Portsoy-Fraserburgh area for Black Guillemot? Also if Findlater Castle is the likeliest spot in the Portsoy area for White Billed Diver. Anything else around in the northeast corner of Aberdeenshire (from Aberdeen to Portsoy) of interest? Heading up that way...

A rare trip for me into Aberdeenshire found a Yellow Wagtail juvenile with 3 Pied Wagtails and a Wheatear on the grassy path below the cliffs (near the woodpile) at St Cyrus NR at lunchtime today. Unfortunately they were all spooked by two walkers and not relocated. Pics here...

Given the strong winds of late, I'd suspect that they were probably Little Auks. If so, great catch.

Wild in Aberdeen - City and Shire

Having spent a fair amount of time last weekend trying to see the Arbroath Dusky Warbler (and finally accidentally chancing upon a second bird), I can certainly sympathise, Andrew. Trying to get a decent photo is even harder - I managed a few blurry shots, but nothing that was much use as...

That's a nice mix of waders at Rigifa and Strathbeg, Joseph. Sounds like a great day out. Any photos?

Tried for a mini duck-fest on Saturday, and failed to get either King Eider or American Wigeon....and the Scoter wasn't reported while we were in the area. Not likely to be able to get back up to Aberdeenshire any time soon, so have to hope at least one of them fancies a visit to Angus soon...

Well, made it up north to Aberdeenshire today. Stopped at Rigifa Pool and saw a few Canada Geese but not much in the way of waders (a few Lapwings). Next stop was the Ythan where we scoured as much as possible for King Eider, but drew a blank. Did see my first Little Tern of the year though. 3...

Wild in Aberdeen - City and Shire

Looks like I'll be heading north (-east) tomorrow with a friend to visit the Ythan and Strathbeg. Can I ask a few wee questions, please? Is Rigifa pool worth a wee detour, despite the departure of the Avocet etc? I assume that pretty much anything can show up there (saw the Temminck's Stint...

Mark, try here for a wee bit help with the ages. http://argatyredkites.co.uk/about-red-kites/ I did find a list at some point that had names for all the Aberdeenshire birds as well as what year they were released, but I can't find it now.

Well, made an early-ish start and got to Rigifa pool around 9.30 without any problems (thanks again for the directions, guys). Had a look around, Linnet, Pied Wagtail, Lapwing, Common Gull, Ringed Plover and Sand Martin. No Stint. |:(| So onwards to the Ytahn to see if we could find LittleTern...

Thanks, guys. Hoping to be there for around 10am.....if I can persuade my girlfriend to make an early-ish start.

Wild in Aberdeen - City and Shire

Hoping to head northwards this Saturday to get Little Tern on the Ythan, and fingers crossed Spoonbill at Strathbeg. Seeing as the Temminck's Stint is still around at Rigifa Pool (and fingers crossed still will be on Saturday too) can anyone please give me more precise directions to the pool...

As requested here's a few of my Dotterel shots and 1 of the Marsh Harrier seen at St Combs & Strathbeg on Friday past....

Wild in Aberdeen - City and Shire

Popped up to Strathbeg and St Combs today in an attempt to get the Dotterels. Spent ages hunting for them, in the wind and rather annoying rain. Found the Golden Plover but the Dotterel were hiding well. Eventually my girlfriend found one of them. Picked up a few more round about. They got...

Certainly won't forget today in a hurry, Delia. (Co-incidentally, I work in Ninewells....we get nesting Oystercatchers and Herring Gulls, plus Goldcrests, Dunnocks, Chaffinches and Blue Tits around the car parks area, and there is a Peregrine which patrols the area from the tall chimney at the...

Wild in Aberdeen - City and Shire

Followed in Gus's footsteps and headed northwards today. Travelled up through Glenshee and had a rather smart Ptarmigan fly across the road right in front of the car and land near the side of the road on the downhill stretch after the ski centre. Onwards towards Rhynie, and managed to find 4...
