    OK, thanks all. I found another photo of the bird showing part the tail, but not the whole bird and it is a herring gull.

    There is some variation is size, so herring gull is probably right. It is as big as they get.

    But it is clearly smaller. Now I am thinking glaucous gull.

    Went to see a rare greater black-backed gull today. The dark juvenile bird. I have a sideways photo of it, it has a black bill. Found by others. I have captured another large gull next to it. The bird on the right. Lesser black-backed?
