    Canon SX60HS in Action

My SX50 is still going strong. Max optical and 2x teleconverter. Looking up my sloped driveway.

    Canon SX60HS in Action

I wonder if I should get one as my SX50's are aging. I tried the SX60 and it was too large for my taste and Image Stabelization sucked next to the SX50. I expect I'll be reading the reviews.

    Thanks. I'll search that up.

    Canon SX60HS in Action

We covered my problem with the SX60 in a bunch of posts long ago (Dec.7-9 2016 in this topic). I purchased an SX60 fairly early on and when I did side by side testing between my SX50's and the SX60 I found that the IS on the SX60 very much inferior to the SX50 so I returned the SX60...

    Canon SX60HS in Action

I know that I tried an SX60 once before and returned it because the IS was horrible when compared with the SX50 but all three of my SX50's are showing their age. Does anyone know if there been any word on whether Canon has perhaps done a firmware update or other changes to the IS in their most...

    Canon SX60HS in Action

One of the first things I did was assign the "frame Assist -lock" button, the lower button, to toggle the teleconverter. The location of the other wildcard button (s) I believe, was at a difficult location to use.

You know, funny thing is I didn't actually snap any shots. I only observed that I couldn't keep the frame steady at all. I can do some shots and post them. Tomorrow we are in the deep freeze with expected wind chill at -17 F. I can't promise I'll get outside right away.

Having a free moment I checked out more details on the SX50's still on Amazon (USA). The least expensive for a new one is $595, way higher than it's original price. Some resellers are asking $699 for the camera! Checking my order history, I paid $424 for my first one in 2012. I paid $329 when...

    Canon SX60HS in Action

I don't know about the UK but here in the US there are still new Canon SX50's on Amazon. And I think that Canon USA sells refurbs still. Not sure what's still out there on your side of the pond but I'd first recommend checking what on-line resellers still have new SX50's available.

Although the SX60 is now at the UPS store, I did a quick test on the SX50 at maximum zoom with Image Stabilization turned off and keeping the thing centered on a leaf way up in the trees was pretty much impossible. If there was a bird I would not have been able to keep the center rectangle on...

It could be interesting. But at this point I have the SX60 all packaged up and ready to drop off at the UPS store later today.

    Canon SX60HS in Action

I had the SX30 and loved it. I got the SX40 when it came out and I loved it. I got the SX50 when it came out and now I have three of them. My sister in law now has the SX30. My wife uses the SX40. I tired the Nikon P900 and hated it. I first took a pass on the SX60 because of the negative...

    Canon SX60HS in Action

Hey there. I agree that at some point in terms of maximum zoom no image stabilization will be able to cope. The SX50 has not reached that point yet. Personally I don't think that the SX60 should have reached that point because it's actual maximum zoom isn't that much greater than the SX50. But...

So the hope that the SX60 would be a good upgrade to the SX50 didn't work out. |=(| It's going to be returned. It will take me a few days to get around to it. If anyone wants something tested speak up soon before it's shipped out.

    Canon SX60HS in Action

Yes. At max I don't know how I would get along without it following the bird as it keeps jumping out of the frame. It's a must-have feature when birding. Time may tell!

Something else I have noticed about the SX60 that would be a serious problem is the way that Framing Assist works. When Framing assist is pressed of course the zoom backs off but the area outside of the original frame is darkened and the origional frame, now small in the screen, is bright. This...

Here are 5 in a series with the SX50 at 215mm +2x teleconverter. And it was so much less effort.

    Canon SX60HS in Action

Near as I can tell I can't set the display to actually tell me the focal length when I'm shooting. I had to try to approximate and go back and forth to have the SX60 at about the same field of view as the SX50. These 5 photos are the SX60 and were my closest and were 171mm vs the SX50 at 215mm...

One last sunny day today before bad weather comes along. I'll do some more shots and let you know.

I took a few more pictures today but no new developments. May take a few more tomorrow before the clouds roll in but losing interest in giving the SX60 any more chances to beat the SX50. I don't think it can and handheld is just too difficult. All but certain i will send the SX60 back.

    Canon SX60HS in Action

Different. Both at their own max. But the point is to use the thing at the max and if it can't beat the SX50 then there is no point keeping it.

Funny thing about patents is that they aren't just used to make your own stuff. They are also used to stop others from making stuff or to trade for rights to patents that others own. Not that I think that Canon doesn't intend to use them but there is no rush if it doesn't make sense to use them...

Interesting. It would be nice if there was a way to grab the data file to see the make and model. I don't see a way.

I have the feeling that I'll be sitting it out along there with you again. Unless I learn that I'm doing something drastically wrong with the SX60, which I strongly doubt given that the settings appear to be identical to the SX50 in every way that matters, I can't see keeping it. I do love my...

Same settings as the SX50 as the main options are pretty much identical. If you mean IS, under "IS Settings" both cameras are Mode = Continuous and Dynamic are set at 1. But I think dynamic is for movie only. I'm using C2 which was set starting in P, as was the SX50. All the key things like...
