Two Months of Lifers Down Under

Ah!!! I'd not twigged where Busselton was, that's about the only part of WA where you can see them LOL. Isn't it lovely to see parrots flying free in flocks. One of my lasting memories was a flock of canaries flying in to drink at Bowra!

What wonderful trips you appear to have had Allen.... I don't know..... we go all that way and just miss each other LOL. If you get back again I really recommend you try and fit in South Australia - there's so many good sites there and, of course, I saw some species that I'd not been able to...

Thanks so much for the compliments Mike. Really appreciated. I hear your area is pretty clear of Corona... hope you came through it OK. I just got home in time, didn't I.

Thank you so much Nora. We did seem to pack a lot in, but it was manageable for my old bones! It was such a shame that we ended on opposite sides for the globe for that period, wasn't it. Thinking if I'm locked-down for a lot longer, I may have to re-read this thread too so I can recall...

Thanks Hans and Judy. If I said 2 weeks (?) it was a slip of the finger LOL It's wonderful to know that your looong drought has broken and your dam is now filled. Here's a picture showing what it was like the day of rain before we went to the Gold Coast. Grass remained very brown though. Good...

Thanks so much for your comments Chosun and Mike. I've had to amend my totals, forgot to include Southern Whiteface in the totals. Sooo 85 now for Queensland with a total 225.

Thanks so much for your comments folks. LOL Deb... I think my brain needs a rest now!;) Hi Dan... does that mean you're back home now? It sounds like you had an amazing time yourself. I know, if I'd been on my own I wouldn't have seen half as much. Well less actually, as I probably wouldn't...

Two Months of Lifers Down Under

Hi John No, certainly, both South and Western Australia have many species and areas I couldn't get to. Remember, virtually every bird in Brisbane was a new one for me and many of them crop up all over Australia. I only had about 12 days each in SA & WA, whereas I was about a month in...

Two Months of Lifers Down Under

Many thanks all of you, not only reading my thread but for the help and advice you've given along the way. Being a bit lazy I used a spreadsheet to organise them all sooo.... Total Life sightings was 225 Break down: Brisbane: 87 (12 days, virtually every bird was new to me) Queensland: 85...

Two Months of Lifers Down Under

Kings Park 19 November 2019 Now for my very last tale from that remarkable holiday. Before we left Herdsmans Lake There were two Australian Ravens completely engrossed in something and took absolutely no interest in me at all. Up in a tree, against the light was a honeyeater, which I've...

Two Months of Lifers Down Under

Still making our way back to the car, a delightful Willie Wagtail was beside the path. There were plenty of warnings about the Tiger Snakes, but I didn't go looking for them!;) It wasn't until I was processing this picture that I realised there was a bird sitting on the fallen branch. It was...

Two Months of Lifers Down Under

Still on the wetland walk I got the second sighting of my holiday of a Nakeen Night Heron. Saw my first only the day before! Then the closest views I've had of an Australian Ibis and a Great Crested Grebe, and that one in a pose I've long wanted to get!! I told you we saw a few in there! Now...

Re post #759 There's thoughts now that it may be a Brown Honeyeater. The jury is out!;) Any others? Discussion here: https://www.birdforum.net/showthread.php?t=387582

Thanks so much etudiant, I'm so glad you're feeling inspired by my tales. Indeed, none of this would have been possible without the kindness and generosity of my hosts.

Two Months of Lifers Down Under

I was fascinated by this tree... I'm presuming it's a Paperbark Tree? Beautiful, isn't it. Then I got my first dragonfly in flight LOL.... well I can sort of make it out. We got some nice views over the lake from the board walk, and even an Australiam Swamphen had come out to have a look too...

Two Months of Lifers Down Under

There were a couple of Australian Ravens on the path, when suddenly a brave Willie Wagtail came down and started harassing them.... guess they had a nest nearby. Round another corner and there were two Pink-eared Ducks swimming across. We then entered the wetland area, it reminded me rather of...

Two Months of Lifers Down Under

Continuing our wander around Herdsman, the next duck was a Pacific Black Duck. Then I was right pleased with the next shot... not only a Musk Duck but I got a dragonfly in flight with him too!! Couldn't do that again if I tried LOL Thought you'd like to see what part of this very large lake...
