    John's Mammals 2015

A couple of ropey pictures of the Irish race of Mountain Hare at Wexford Wildfowl Reseve a few of days ago. The hares seem quite easy to see at the moment. Also, a few weeks ago I also came across a road traffic injured Pine Martin in the middle of the day, north of Athlone. Poor creature was...

Thanks Peter, that is exactly what it was doing. Good stuff. Thanks again, Phil

    John's Mammals 2015

Mind-blowing stuff Andrea. Sorry to go straight for the obvious, but that massive Jaguar has got to be perhaps the most impresive creature on planet earth. I think If I'd seen that I wouldn't be a functioning human being for about a week later. Fantastic photographs. Back to workaday...

    John's Mammals 2015

Looking like they've just wandered out of the local farmyard, but these may be 'Feral' Goats. They were out wandering on The Burren yesterday. I get to visit the area briefly after working nearby, a few times a year - although it's the first time I've met the goats. Good to see quite a few...

    John's Mammals 2015

Thanks John. Yes there were several uncontrolled dogs on the beach on Sunday as well (and a bloke swimming near the seals in his underpants - perhaps he hadn't noticed the size of a Grey Seals gnashers). Interestingly, if you look at the Freinds of Horsey Seals website it asks people to keep...

    John's Mammals 2015

A walk along a Horsey Beach here in the UK also results in views of the local seals. Not so many this time of the year and they were staying in the water. Perhaps not surprising as I think they Grey Seals pup in the winter, and the Common / Harbour (apologies for the English spelling) are a bit...

Quite agree, a 'photo tick' for me so really appreciated. Hope the release goes well. Phil

    John's Mammals 2015

Had a brief walk around Strumpshaw Fen today, and saw a Stoat and Water Shrew. Rubbish pictures attached. Apparently Stoats are being seen frequently there, and there has been a Weasel around the visitors centre. Phil

    John's Mammals 2015

Sika Deer directions spot-on John. No problem finding them today in the early morning sunshine. Pics taken just north of Shipstal Point. Left plenty of time to go and see the Early Spider Orchids, and get a few year ticks (Dartford Warbler, Spoonbill and Cuckoo). (A nice change from all that...

    John's Mammals 2015

I talk from scant evidence, but the rabbit population a Weeting Heath seems to have recovered somewhat, and the enthusiastic young warden reports both Weasel and Stoat have been seen recently (unfortunately not by us). The Roe Deer was in a potato field (I think) near the Lakenheath reserve. Phil

    John's Mammals 2015

I was pleased to see two Irish Hares at Wexford Wildfowl Reserve during my lunch break on Tuesday - haven't seen them there for a few of years (although my visits are very brief). They are still present at Dublin Airport as well - seen from the taxing plane window. Phil

    John's Mammals 2015

Apologies in advance for posting this, and definitely not 'tickable', but they get a mention in The History of British Mammals by Derek Yalden, and were in a David Attenborough documentary a few years ago, so I felt compelled to do a bit of a detour during a recent work trip. Also had Roe Deer...

    John's Mammals 2015

Perhaps a bit cynical. Some information here, especially when combined with the General Wildlife / Mammals section on Birdforum has certainly been useful. For example the Water Shrew(s) were almost a 'walk up job' last Sunday at the Lodge, Beds. and alerted to this by a regular on here. One of...

    John's Mammals 2015

Thanks Dan. Interesting thread. We were unable to find any Sudan Golden Sparrows, but as first time visitors we were more than happy with the Desert Sparrows and other regular desert species. I'd love to go back sometime, perhaps using the flight down to Dakhla.

    John's Mammals 2015

In north Herts on Sunday these Fallow Deer were nice to see. By the way, we recently enjoyed a birding trip to Morocco including a long, long drive down to the Aoussard Road. As it was our first trip we concentrated on birds, and mammals were very limited - just Fat Sand Rat and African...
