Very busy at the bird feeder today!

"This may be a common routine in your country or in Oz, ? "This was not necessary. <stonechat1> Your passion on this is obvious so allow me, if you will, to reverse this. I quickly looked up a shy and beautiful Australian bird I came across the eastern rosella. Would you protect it if it's...

Somewhat resent this: first it assumes I did not take the different variables of the group into account. I believe I led off the discussion topic with "moral question." Secondly it appears, feel free to correct me here if I am wrong, that I am not as serious a birder as some. I could defend this...

Moral question: all respectful input appreciated. European starlings are a non-indigenous bird. They are troublesome for many domestic birds. Especially the eastern blue bird. It's not unusual for 15 to even 25 to raid my feeders daily. They chase off other birds. Are one of the most wasteful...

More snow. More cold. Many hungry birds. Good assortment too. European starling are hell on the feeders and other birds. A flock of 25 to 35 has found my yard. Where is that Cooper's hawk when you need him. Love the excitement in their chirping when I refil the feeders in the late afternoon.

Temps finally returning to normal. Although, the -20f temps were painful the numbers of birds at the feeders was very encouraging. Over 50 at any given time. Mostly, sparrows, cardinals, doves etc. One junco ( bringing years list to 10) and the usually herd of blue jays which only hang out until...

Great pics. The one on the right would be great for any number of captions? Definitely a suspicious or condescending look. Lol

Being snowed in has its birding benefits. A red bellied woodpecker returned. I rarely get woodpeckers since we joined the surbanites. Dam house sparrows ran her off. Hopefully she'll return.

Hawk drown I know, not arguing with nature. Earlier posted about a robin screaming as a snake grabbed it. Never would have imagined this was anything other then atypical behavior. Guess I should appreciate the experience and the learning of bird behavior. The lion will lay with the lamb. Lol

Sadly watched a hawkdrown a pigeon. Believe it was a juvenile Cooper's hawk. Although I am not much for id ing raptors. I saw him standing in a puddle. About 5' by 8'. Maybe 3 inches deep. I thought it odd he was standing there, looked like standing on a stick. After several minutes he stepped...

Bought a bird bath heater. Definitely an asset. Love the way the chirps turn to excitement when refilling feeders during snow storms.

8 blue jays at one time. I should have thought of this ground feeder a long time ago. They love peanuts & corn. Corn is very reasonably priced.

I've had 3 dead birds in the past 2 months...1 in my bird bath. I am concerned not keeping everything clean enough. This is from audobon's web site: "Disinfect your feeder and birdbath: To keep pathogens at bay, immerse your seed feeder or birdbath in a nine to one water-bleach solution...

You can beat the squirrels without endangering them. I use a baffler and putout sunflower and whole corn for them. I enjoy them but keep them away from my feeders because they are wasteful.

Tough watching nature do it's business.... I have a Cooper hawk living the good life right now. He especially likes squirrels. Although, I have only found one of his prey my normal 6 to 7 visits a day are down to a couple. I once had a robin grabbed by a large black snake, it let out the most...

Drove by my former house, I left my feeders and food and the renters assured me they would feed the birds. I had lived there 8 years and had a lot of regulars. Sadly they have removed the feeders.... Hope they were not to dependent on me....
