San francisco and new york too hot and more sight seeing than birding (1 Viewer)

this was my first visit to the states as a birder having already being disney when i was 5 years old so i cant remember much of that and i knew san fran would be my best bet to get some decent birding in im not a photographer or wont be a good story about the birds but will be more of locations and birds list

Your report brought back a few memories of a family holiday years ago. Just one point - black headed bunting ? Do you mean grosbeak ?

I noticed the "black-headed bunting" in the list too. I thought maybe Rob was referring to the "Oregon" race of the Dark-eyed Junco (it has a black head). Then I saw that Rob did list seeing the Dark-eyed Junco near the end of the list, so "black-headed bunting" was somewhat of a mystery for me!
 
sorry about the confusion wasnt paying attention when typing that and reading my notes yes it was black headed grosebeak singing in yosemite fantastic male

the picture below is the black pheobe at golden gate park near chinese stlye hut

the new york part of my trip was a lot less bird filled and was mainly due to it being 103 fahrenheit and in a big city that aint much fun

I have to question your Mew Gull on the Hudson. If that were on your San Francisco list, I'd buy it, but in New York City in the middle of summer that would be quite the rarity.

sorry for late repley but what i saw just looked like our common gulls in the UK didnt realise was a rarity for the time of year
