getting birds to pose for shots (1 Viewer)

It seems some spend a lot of money on kit to get pictures of birds but I do

not have the where with all both ability for using such equipment or the will

to buy it so I wondered if maybe the birds would pose for shots instead of

having to do split second timing.

I came accross the Teachings of His Divine Grace A C Bhaktivedanta Swami

Prabhupada , who states that the material world is made out of

forgetfullness (or ignorance ) of God (Krishna), almost every being on the

planet including trees and animals and humans are busy forgetting or

ignoring Krishna or God. Basically we are trying to enjoy the things created

by God but ignoring God at the same time. This being contrary to our

essence and thus causing suffering.

One of Srila Prabhupadas recommendations was on diet. Food that is not

offered to Krishna increases ones ignorance and He taught that food should

be first offered to Krishna and then it helps one in rememberance. Of course

there are alloted foodstuffs for humans, foods that are given such as fruits

nuts and grains and also milk. Unneccesary killing of animals is sub human

( and causes much suffering ) even though we are all educated to the

contrary.

So food that is offered to Krishna and is of the alloted types gets a kind of
Spiritual Spice or infusion and then anyone who eats the food gets spiritual

benefit, animals or humans.

What is this to do with birds posing for pictures ?

well whilst camping I would throw some peanuts that had been offered to

Krishna around the tent area and one robin especially seemed to take a liking

to them, so much so that the robin seemed to pester me as if asking or

waiting for the peanuts to be distributed. The robin would come in the tent in

the morning as if trying to get me out the sleeping bag and would later have

a look round to see what was occuring or most likely if any more peanuts

were being eaten.

picture 1 " Do you see many birds through this thing ?"

picture 2 " This early bird would like to get the peanut ! "

picture 3 " "

picture 4 " snack time yet ? "

picture 5 " wasting time on a computer when you could be eating peanuts ! "

For an introduction to the teaching of Srila Prabupada if you put

" Miracle on 2nd Avenue free PDF download " and/or

"The Hare Krishna explosion free PDF download "

into google search bar it should give result of PDF books to download.

Both written by the first followers and tells how they and others were

changed from hippies to monks and nuns. Great Read

Just say " A little bird told me "

Sounds like that robin gets fed regularly.

I’m curious about how you achieved that double spacing in your message.

reply topshute

Double spacing was just done by pressing the return button twice after each line .

I should point out that the peanuts were broken into little bits for the robin.

are you suggesting that birds fed offerings gain some form of enlightenment and hang around for us to get easier photographs? does that include vultures trailing strings of intestine from sacrifices and crows eating eyeballs from battlefield bodies? i have seen birds eating rice offerings in Bali but they didn't hang around for photos. seems more like cupboard love to me without insulting your belief.

i can follow that we may gain awareness, even 'krishna consciousness' from kindness to animals but can't imagine any essence of sacrifice or offering remaining on a peanut.

beliefs are often a form of escapism so that one does not have to find out by practical experience, as it is often just easier to conjure up arguments. Lots of people eating food that is disagreeable to ones being will be projected onto the world stage !!! Rather than change ones disagreeable diet it seems easier to disagree with others, rather than battle ones one false beliefs it seems easier to conjure up arguments.

Think like a Bird

Give the birds some credit. They are interested in us sometimes.

Move slow and treat them just like you would a child you just meet.

Leave the record light on. Just so they know...

Continue to follow them at a distance. Never too close.

I video butterflies by following them around with the camera recording and the light on. Never getting closer than a couple feet. They WILL land.. Much nicer than the ones with a pin through their bodies. Pumping their wings and all.

Make nice eyes at your subject.. All animals recognize that.
Some times with birds I make a pathetic attempt at their "mating calls"
That seems to either please of piss them off...
A flicker took a dive at me for the whistling. Guess he didn't like others hearing him talking to an idiot human? Maybe.
