If you have to ask, its usually a Sparrowhawk.
Hi and thanks for taking the time
and well yeah
“When you hear hoofs, think horse, not zebra.”
but (sorry) more data
it was bigger than the wood pigeon it had taken
we saw the whole thing in three episodes
we were sitting in the garden having coffee
suddenly we saw the raptor and a wood pigeon falling to the floor
we saw the barred tail of the raptor
it seemed to loose its grip on the Wood Pigeon and then flew off
we were sitting less than two meters away
the wood pigeon was stunned and when it came to its senses it moved into the bamboo and we thought the episode over
but I got the camera...
Then about 5’ later we saw the raptor was plucking a (the ?) pigeon about 12m further off
I started to take photos and then the neighbours kids, 4 and 6, started shouting.
The bird flew off with the carcass – about 10m into the shade of some bigger trees and finished her meal on the floor
does the story change anyone's view ?
and what about the size compared to the Wood Pigeon ?
thanks again for all your help
I had already seen a Wryneck that morning so was well ahead
Cheers BM
ps in this photo that is blood on his chin/throat
