Swallow and barn owl (1 Viewer)

A Valley Birder
Having spent two and a half hours looking for our usual SE Owls and merlins without success (mipits, wheatears, kestrel and my first swallow for the year, instead), I got home sat in front of the computer, glanced outside and saw a barn owl glide across the neighbours gardens and disappear through a gap in the trees. A nice surprise!

Not really open countryside, we are in the valleys, surrounded by steep hills, topped by open heathland and moorland, but its the second time for me to spot a barn owl in the evening from my window. We hear tawnys some nights, but can't find them in the darkness.

To a south londoner - that is very much countryside!

As it happens, I'm off to mid wales in a few weeks - near Barmouth - have seen a red a kite there before, but never an owl so I will keep my eyes peeled..................... you never know.

Good luck with your quest.
