A few new birds. Did a road trip an hour north to Withlacochee State Forest. Picked up all 3 species I targeted. So great to hear multiple Bachman's Sparrows singing. Total of 7 in less that 2 miles. Great location as needed pine forest still intact unlike many places in Florida that have been knocked down for development.

Great day. Original plan was to hit Ft DeSoto Park pre dawn. However, on arrival we noted there was going to be a race at the park. To avoid getting trapped as you cannot drive roads once bike race starts we left the park. Turned out to be a good move. Headed to Boyd Hill / Lake Maggorie Park and had an outstanding morning. Also checked Lassing Park and Del Holmes Park. All is general area. Added several new birds to year list. Back to work in the morning, but at least only two weeks till spring break.

A few add on's since last report. Good news is first migrants of year show up today after a storm front. Hopefully things will continue to improve. Made a 3 day trip to north Florida this week primarily for butterflies. Added a few new birds to year list too. Would highly recommend a visit to Tall Timbers near Tallahassee in winter or early spring.

Finally a good number of birds. Large front moved through yesterday. First last night 13 Upland Sandpipers at Ft DeSoto. Never seen such numbers for our area as it's a rarity. This was late afternoon and still raining. As i was leaving you could see the migrants coming in and landing in the trees. Unfortunately, i did have to work today so could not get back out till this afternoon. Plenty of birds still around though. Best fall out we have had in several years. Many Summer and Scarlet Tanagers, Blue and Rose Grosbeak, Indigo Bunting, Baltimore Oriole to name a few

Holy Cow did not realize it's been April since my last post. Past few months spent packing to prepare for a move from Florida to Tennessee. Well move finally done, thank goodness. This year has been a bit of a bust because of move. But still some good birding fun, and new yard birds to see here in Tennessee.

Suspect this will be final post for 2018. Been an up down year for me. Between moving from Florida to Tennessee and poor health part of the year it was a tough one.

Good news is health is back, I retired early, and am loving new adventures in Tennessee. Hope all have a wonderful holiday and will post again in the new year. Trying to plan a couple of trips in 2019 since health is back
