Disease in House Finch? (1 Viewer)

About 3 weeks ago I noticed a female house finch at my feeder who had an eye that was all shut and all crusty looking. I thought maybe she had an injury. Last week a second female was seen with crusty looking eye. And it was a different bird because they were both at the feeder at the same time. Yesterday, a male house finch was seen at the feeder with a crusty looking eye. Anyone else seeing anything like this? I live in the Greenville SC area.

So, a while back I stopped feeding the birds. I threw away those feeders and made new ones. The house finch tends to really like the sunflower seed. So I switched to feed that lacks sunflower seed. It worked well. I have no more house finch at my feeder. However, conjunctivitis is back, this time it is a Sparrow. So is this the first case of conjunctivitis in sparrows?
