Another report of Marsh Tit at the Moors Pool yesterday as per Clive and Sheila Williamson (via BirdTrack / eBird). Does anyone know them or have contact details to verify the sighting and exact location?

An early morning 5-9am

Only visited the Flashes as ANDY P had the Moors staked out.
My first visit for 11 days and I couldn't believe how much dryer the Flashes had become..
There is no doubt that the 2nd Flash would have been totally dry if it wasn't for last year's rejuvenation work.
The record number of Avocet on Wednesday had whittled down to just 8 birds. The LRP pair had 2 chicks and the female was still sitting. The only passage birds were Ringed plover a juv LRP and 2 swallows.
There was plenty of passerines activity mostly in the West hedgerow (which is right of the Avocet hide)

Although there is a strip of open water across the middle section of the 2nd Flash and much of the mud around it is very wet we need rain within a week or I fear the worst.
I would suggest that people check from the cuckoo hide as there is plenty of mud on the periphery of the first Flash.
Species count FLASHES:
Teal 3. Mallard a brood of 8 chicks are still intact after a couple of weeks.
Avocet 8. Lapwing 12. LRP 6 ( 3 ads , juv from elsewhere +2 chicks 2 days old ). Ringed Plover ad. Common sand. Green sand 3.
BHG 200.
Stock dove 35. Green woodp. Kingfisher.
Swift 10. Swallow 2.
Whitethroat 3(1 singing). Blackcap 2. Sedge warbler 2. Reed warbler. Chiffchaff 2. Cetti's w hub heard
Greenfinch family party and singing male. Linnet 3. Goldfinch 18.
Reed Bunting 5.

Sailing Pool: GCG 2+large chick

Yesterday at the Moors Pool Andy P reported:

3 Lapwing, Oystercatcher, 2 Common Tern, Med x BH Gull hybrid, drake Wigeon, juvenile Water Rail

Also Hobby in the afternoon as per Robert Plummer

From a quiet Flashes Dave J reports:

4 Avocet, 2 Green Sandpiper, 4 Little Ringed Plover (3 adults + just a single chick, 1 juvenile)

This morning at the Flashes Phil W reports:

Just 4 Avocet, 3 Little Ringed Plover (and 1 chick), 1 Common Sand, 2 Green Sands

Tuesday 10th July 1400-1730

Very quiet on the reserve today, especially at the Flashes where the evaporation continues at pace; the gulley linking the first and second flashes is very nearly lost. However the water level in the third flash remains virtually unaltered.

MOORS POOL
1 Grey Heron, 3 Cormorant, 2 Great Crested Grebe + 3 young, 7 Little Grebe + 3 young (2 well-grown chicks on west side, 1 young chick at north end), 2 Common Terns (1 still sitting in raft), 2 Lapwing, 2 Mute Swan, 65 Canada Geese, 6 Moorhen, 3 LBB Gull, 7 Tufted Duck broods, good numbers of Coot and Mallard but not specifically counted.

SAILING POOL
3 Great Crested Grebe + 1 well-grown young, 3 Greylag Geese, 2 Mute Swan, 15 Canada Geese.

FLASHES
3 Avocet (4 earlier as per Paul R), 2 Little Ringed Plover (no sign of chick), 15 Curlew, 2 Lapwing, 1 Teal, adult Herring Gull, 14 Canada Geese, 11 Moorhen (Water Rail, Common Sand and 2 Green Sand earlier as per Paul R).

Amazed to find the current Yellow-legged Gull is the first July record!

The yellow ringed Black-headed Gull mentioned up page originated from the North Thames ringing programme - have requested full details which I will post here.
