Bartley reservoir (1 Viewer)

Reported sightings since 2001 have included Sandwich Arctic and Black Tern, Common and Velvet Scoter, Long-tailed Duck, Smew, Pomarine Skua, Great Northern Diver, Quail, Avocet, Sanderling, Turnstone, Whimbrel, Greenshank, Knot, Grey Phalarope, Kittiwake, Kumlien's Little Iceland Caspian Glaucous and Med Gulls, Slavonian Red-necked and Black-necked Grebe, Red-breasted Merganser, Osprey, Whooper Swan, Red-crested Pochard, Short-eared Owl, Stonechat, Whinchat, Red Kite, Brent and Pink-footed Goose, Nightingale and Ring Ouzel.

I told ya it was crap .......8-P

pic...a Gull ...the Beeches are on the right....taken through the bathroom window in West Heath last night ( a few miles away)....I always look at this view every day to judge the weather...most days its a blur with mist/cloud.8-P

As soon as I saw a thread titled 'Bartley Reservoir' I instantly thought 'Bill Oddie'.
Can't forget his wonderful accounts of birding here in the mid-50's :
'Bartley: one Dabchick'
'Bartley: one Lesser Black-backed Gull'
while sites around were recording masses of birds.

I recall him saying he went there because it was his own spot, and his incentive was to "rack up as many sets of initials in the WMBC Reports as he could, which wasn't difficult as he was the only one there".

Its a bit like the guy who has watched that cemetery in Kent for years......and the other week found the Dusky Thrush.

Personally, unless its a mega, I hate seeing other peoples birds, I like to go and find my own.

Stopped off at Bartley for an hour today on my way home from deepest Staffordshire.....

1 Redshank
1 Common Sand
15 Herring Gulls
2 Chiffchaffs

Had a report that a Grasshopper Warbler has been reeling at Bartley a couple of evenings over the past week, "near the sluice in the southern corner".
 
Tuesday 8.15pm x 9.15pm. Several boats on the res from the local sailing club but disturbance minimal.

4 Common Terns (inc 2 juveniles)
2 Chiffchaffs
50+ Swifts
20+ House Martins
31 Canadas
c50 LBB Gulls
1 Whitethroat
30+ Magpies
1 Common Sand

et al.....
 
12-7-13....Quick visit this morning before work......

3 Common Terns
1 Green Sandpiper
c80 LBB Gulls
30+ Swifts
Plus usual warblers
 
23.7.13.....evening.....

Boats, boats....everywhere.......more boats than gulls and there were a lot of gulls.....

Needless to say with all that disturbance very little in the way of birdlife, and no waders at all.

1 Bullfinch
35 mallards

Thats as good as it got :C

plus 450 Woodpigeons north-west over the res 5pm-6pm


And an afternoon on Walton hill (Worcs) produced a Honey Buzzard soaring just east of Walton before drifting away south-east (not south-west as stated on RBA).

After spending the past seven days birding in the wilds of north-west Scotland it was back to reality this evening with an hour at Bartley.

1 Yellow legged Gull
23 Herring Gulls
1 Chiffchaff
1 Blackcap
1 Whitethroat

And that was about it
 
Presume you had a good trip Steve? I would hae thought the weather was mixed? Have you posted stuff elsewhere, if not what did you see and where?
