We are visiting Central Panama (Canal Area, Cerro Azul, El Valle) on a short independent birding trip. However we will probably decide to take bird guides on the spot for some hours or half days. Can you recommend any local guides (name, phone number) for those places that can be contacted/hired on site?

I birded Panama with a bird guide (Gonzalo Horna) who in turn used other more local guides in certain areas in Panama. You can contact him and see if he can put you in touch with guides in the area(s) you need:

It may lead you to some helpful names. A understanding of Spanish would be almost necessary to get the most out of it but some sightings are posted in English. I see they had a report of a Pearly-breasted Cuckoo recently, a bird I didn't even know existed.

Euclides Campos -- that name is different enough that I cannot believe there are two: he must be the person that took us out to San Fransisco well towards Darrien. He really knew his birds, and helped a lot with the problem that two tires blew at the same time.
