Skylark Seaforth, Liverpool UK (yesterday) (1 Viewer)

Hi all

I haven't posted in this forum before.

Took a photo of this Skylark yesterday and just wanted to know what I should do regarding seeing it? Send a report to somewhere or do nothing?

Also, because I am colour-blind it can be a hindrance so if someone could tell me the correct colours of the bands/rings thanks.

Unless someone knows anything about local colour ringing, I would simply suggest notifying the BTO, who should know details of the scheme - but strange that there is no numbered metal ring.....

Or is the "white" ring actually a metal one?

i think pic colours and resolution are too unclear but it could well be a numbered metal ring. British Trust for Ornithology is BTO mentioned but i dont know the answer about reporting, others will. Someone will be pleased to get a report about location i am sure!

I've been digging and, I think this, describes the ring/band arrangement?

Rung / ringed(?) in Holland

Or, more likely, this project:

from Merseyside.

EDIT: Also i think the combination is Black over Yellow Right leg, Blue over Metal/BTO on left leg. Which fits perfectly with the project linked above. Think the 'lowest' black ring is simply a dark patch on the top of the birds foot which occasionally can be seen is Skylarks. Although that is as dark as i have seen it, either in person or on a google image search.

Couple of examples:

I can't figure out the right leg, is that two or three bands, looks like black over yellow over black?

As i said in my Edit i think its a dark foot, its also present on the birds other foot where it is more obvious that it is just a dark patch rather than a ring.

I would send a picture to Kane dot Brides at wwt dot org dot uk

When and were taken and the date.

The rings look like black above yellow above black right leg.
blue above metal left leg

Good luck.

Thanks Jim, but I emailed the guy from the link jenks86 posted.

Here's the reply:

Hi Richie,

Thank you for sending details of this bird. This is the first sighting of the bird since the bad weather and proof that it survived. It is the 22nd sighting of the bird since it joined the winter flock on 30/11/17.It has been seen visiting a territory since 25/01/18.

The bird was ringed on the coast at Blundellsands, Crosby on 24/05/17. It was a nestling, aged 6-7 days old , and one of four chicks. It has moved about 1km.

I am in the process of providing an update sheet on the birds seen so far in the study and hope to have it ready for the weekend. It will also give some details of the study. I will send it to you as soon as it is ready.

Once again thanks for taking the time to send the details. Please forward any more sightings of colour ringed Skylarks that you see in the future.

Regards

Ian Wolfenden
