The month got of to a good start with the 3 Garganey's still present, 3 Common Sandpiper on the island and 4 Little Egrets on Forge Mill, on the 2nd we had 3 Water Rail in the Marsh and the Garganey's were still present, the 3rd gave us a Ringed plover briefly on the small islands and 6 Little Egrets, on the 4th the Garganey's were still present and a Common Sandpiper was on the island, no sign of the Garganey on the 5th but 2 Common Sandpiper on the island and a Marsh Tit was seen near the River, the 6th gave us a unseasonal 3rd year Great Black Backed Gull on Forge Mill and a Common Sandpiper was still on the island, on the 8th the Common Sandpiper was still present, a Black Tailed Godwit was on the island briefly, 2 Common Tern went through and a Hobby flew over Forge Mill, the 9th gave us a single Common tern and Common Sandpiper on the island 4 Little Egrets in the Marsh and the Marsh Tit was seen again this time with a Tit flock near the Forge Mill Car Park, on the 10th we had a Dunlin on the island and a Common Sandpiper on Swan pool, the 11th gave us a female Marsh Harrier over Brownies, female Mandarin on North island, Common Sandpiper on the River and a Common Tern flew through, on the 13th we had 1+ Crossbill calling over Forge Hill, the 14th gave us a Adult Med Gull on the islands, on the 15th we had 3 Green sandpiper on the island, the 16th saw the Med on the island on the 17th we had our first Tree pipit of the year, the 18th gave us a different Med Gull on the island and a 3rd year Great Black Backed Gull droped in briefly on the island, on the 19th we had a Redshank, Med Gull, Common Sandpiper on Forge Mill and a Tree pipit at Brownies Farm buildings, the 20th saw 2 Whinchat at Salters Lane, on the 21st an Osprey flew through along the River towards Ray Hall, the 22nd gave us Tree Pipit x2 and Hobby x2 over Brownies, Med Gull again on Forge Mill and a Redstart at Hill Top, the 24th saw the Tree pipits still present, the 26th gave us a Yellow Wagtail over Salters and a Osprey over the new workings, on the 27th a Redshank flew along the stream running parallel with the Motorway behind the Colliery Banks, the 28th produced an interesting count of 12 Redhead Goosander locally bred ? and a Juv Redstart at Salters Lane, on the 29th the Goosander were still present, Stonechat, Redstart, Grasshopper warbler and a Hobby were at Salters Lane, the 30th was a busy day, it gave us a Great white Egret on Forge Mill, Wheatear and Gropper at Salters Lane and a Whinchat on Brownies a evening visit with Tracy looking for Fox Cubs produced a Honey Buzzard over Salters only the 2nd Valley record with Pete Hackett seeing one in September 2006
some of the best counts being :- 500+ Wood Pigeon, 100+ Ring Necked Parakeets, 107 Carrion Crow, 60 Wren, 36 Lapwings, 36 Robin, 23 Dunnock, 19 Blackcap, 13 Blackbird, 9 Little Egrets, 8 Whitethroat and 7 Reed Warbler
we clocked up 102 species eight being additions to the year list putting us on 133
