Upton Warren (10 Viewers)

OK, more news on the netting over the radio mast at Burcot. Turns ou it is going to be up whilst the mst is painted, supposedly to protect birds and the workers. The workers told me the netting will be gone as soon as the paint is dry.

One coincidence, the owner of the farm that the mast is placed upon is named Mr Bird.

Morning! Yes, I know, long time no hear. Anyway, does anyone know any more about this mast please? I am going there today to speak with the farmer to ask for details.

Any information would be gratefully received.

Please email me - [email protected] - or message me here or on Facebook, Gary Brian Prescott. Text is 07553471341.

Thanks everyone.

I will be down the Warren tomorrow for, hopefully a string of visits! Miss the place.

One of the reasons of the relatively poor performance to date of this April has been the lack of passage of waders (only a Black-tailed Godwit and arriving Common Sand to date). Below are the wader totals for the previous five Aprils:

2014 - 16
2015 - 15
2016 - 13
2017 - 17
2018 - 13
2019 - 9

Common Sandpiper, 2 Snipe, 4 Oystercatcher, 4 Teal, 22 Shoveler, 3 Gadwall, 3 Shelduck, 3 Meadow Pipit over, 2 Willow Warbler, 2 Reed Warbler, Sedge Warbler

From the Flashes this morning Andy P reports:

24 Avocet, 5 Little Ringed Plover, 3 Oystercatcher, Snipe, 17 Lapwing, 4 Shelduck, 5 Teal, Shoveler, Peregrine

just some pics from yesterday and this evening.

Not much to add to the above:

Moors - Cetti's at least 4 singing, Teal 4 on NM
Hen Pool - W. Rail 2 & L. Grebe 2
Flashes - S. Martin 2, Gadwall 3

At least 3, possibly 4, ringed BHGs on the reserve today:

2A23 - black letters/numbers on yellow darvic (Flashes)
2BTV - white on black darvic (Flashes)
24NO - black on white darvic (Flashes)
24HO - black on white darvic (Moors) this may have been a misread of the above ring, although this one has been previously recorded on the reserve
