Coney Meadow and Adjoining Areas (2 Viewers)

Other records from today:

Willow Warblers near Mildenham, Tapenhall and Porter's Mill lock area.
Gadwalls, Coot, 2 Greylags, large flock of Sand Martins near the confluence, Yellowhammer near New Mill plus Lapwing there, Meadow Pipits, Skylarks, Swallows around Ladywood and Salwarpe, Cormorant, Redwing, Goldcrests, Nuthatch, Coal Tit, Reed Buntings and Chiffchaffs.

Good selection of butterflies around Droitwich - Salwarpe early afternoon - 8 Orange Tips, 2 Brimstones, Holly Blue, Comma, 2 Peacocks, 4 Small Tortoiseshells, Large White and Green-veined White.

2 Snipe and a pair of Gadwall near Copcut Rise on the upper drainage swale this evening.

A Water Rail calling from Coney reedbed and 3 Snipe flew out at dusk. Reed Warbler singing still and 3 Swallows over.
 
Lesser Whitethroat singing and showing well along Chawson Lane. New for the year.
Common Whitethroat and Reed Warbler Coney Meadow.
Willow Warbler Gorsey Bank.
 
A Reed Warbler singing along the canal near Porter's Mill this evening.
Tawny Owl Salwarpe churchyard
Water Rail singing Coney reedbed plus another calling
One Snipe flew from the reedbed at dusk
3 Sand Martins and a Swallow over
More Swallows around Porter's Mill and Ladywood earlier

Decent numbers of bats flying around at dusk around Salwarpe.
 
Sedge Warbler Coney Meadow plus 2 or more singing Reed Warblers, 2 Common Whitethroats and singing Water Rail. Sedge W new for the year.
 
A late Redwing was also seen this morning perched then flew over Coney.

A curious sound was heard several times from the eastern part of the meadow - seemed to be coming from a pollarded Willow - a slightly rasping, short hiss - most like a Barn Owl - but I couldn't see anything.
 
Cuckoo Porters Mill - bang on schedule - same date as last year.

Willow Warbler Ladywood. Singing Common Whitethroats around Chatley - New Mill - 3 so far today. Seems like spring has finally got into gear.

Egg Lane to Linacre bridge - 8 Sedge Warblers, 4 Reed Warblers

Linacre bridge to the confluence - 2 Sedge, 1 Reed, 1 Common Whitethroat, 2 House Martins, 3 Sand Martins

Hawford farm cottage - 2 Common Whitethroats

Egg Lane to Tapenhall - 1 Lesser Whitethroat, 3 Reed Warblers, 2 Common Whitethroats, 2 Willow Warblers

Coney Meadow - 3+ Reed Warblers + 2 along the canal, 1 Sedge Warbler, 1 Common Whitethroat

Chawson Lane - 1 Lesser Whitethroat

A few Swallows in various places.

Other birds seen - 1 Lapwing near Chatley plus one Yellowhammer

2 Gadwall Tapenhall

1 Great Crested Grebe at the confluence

A couple more Sedge Warblers and Common Whitethroats noted cf yesterday.

Pair of Gadwall over Coney Meadow, 2 Sedge Warblers, several Reed Warblers, Common Whitethroats and Swallows. Water Rail singing.

A flock of 11 Meadow Pipits over Coney - getting quite late for them to still be around.

Several Gadwall around Chatley - Hawford.
2 Ravens Tapenhall.
Willow Warbler near Jacob's Ladder.
Reed and Sedge Warblers numerous in some areas
2 Sand Martins near the confluence
Mistle Thrushes.
Little Owl seen yesterday morning.
 
A late Fieldfare over near Salwarpe this evening plus 2 Meadow Pipits.
Cuckoo moving around the village calling.
Lesser Whitethroat singing between Salwarpe and High Park.
Common Whitethroat along Copcut Lane plus 2 House Martins.
Pair of Gadwall near Copcut Rise plus Common Whitethroat, Linnets and Mistle Thrushes.
 
Yellow Wagtail over Sinton Lane. 4+ Yellowhammers, Lesser Whitethroat and several Common Whitethroats in the area.

2 Cuckoos chasing around Salwarpe Court early this morning. Lesser Whitethroats Coney Meadow and Chawson Lane.

Snipe and pair Gadwall Copcut Rise this evening again plus 2 House Martins and Common Whitethroats Copcut Lane
Lesser Whitethroat near Salwarpe again this evening, Cuckoo calling virtually constantly, Snipe Coney Meadow and 3 Sand Martin's over flew south. Swallows over in a few places including 5 Middleton Bank and 3 Coney.

Increase in Lesser Whitethroats with 2 near Chatley and others around Mildenham, Coney and Chawson Lane.

3 Ravens over Hawford (one over Coney yesterday)
