2010 UK Orchid season updates (1 Viewer)

3rd June - Bee Orchids, Greater Butterfly, Twayblade, Common Spotted and Green Winged around Draycote and Ufton Fields.

31st May - Bird's Nest Orchid and Fly Orchid - Batcombe, Dorset and Heath Spotted Orchid, Powerstock Common:

Some greater butterflies have survived the weedkiller at the site just off the A38 in Devon, and were looking good over the weekend (no sign of bee orchids but site is quite heavily scrubbed over).

Anyone know how the season is progressing up north? Planning on visiting North Uist very soon...

Heath Spotted-orchid in flower at Matley Bog and Southern Marsh-orchid at Hatchet Pond.

Had a little look for Frog at the former but to no avail!

Not a top orchid spotter myself but it looks a bit patchy here (I'm on South Uist) - been a very dry and cold spring with it only really warming up in the last few days, so growth of most things has been late and slow until now.

Very stunted twayblade just appeared in my garden and spotted orchids just coming through. Some heath spotted out on the bogs but many short with small flower heads.

Machair dune slacks of variable dampness, but some areas of NU really quite dry.

Bristol Lizard Orchids still in tight bud, I would guess 2 weeks more needed, I saw 6 spikes today, but I;m sure I've under counted as this as this was was a very brief visit, and plants are only just emerging from the underlying vegetation.

Bee orchids are only just omcing into flower, so you may be lucky.

Late spiders are out in Kent.

I hear tell of a rare ochroleuca (all yellow) Fly orchid in flower in Southern England. I do not have an exact location, so please do not PM me!

News from Lincolnshire (for anyone interested!)

Greater Butterfly Orchids at their best at sev mid Lincs sites.
Frog Orchids in good numbers and at their best at the mid Lincs site
Man Orchids down in numbers but currently in flower (per the Jennings) at the classic south Lincs site
Bee Orchids still tight in bud in mid Lincs. Need another week or two.
Good numbers of Green-flowered Helleborine emerging at the only Lincs site, but obviously need more time before flowering.

Also; no sign of any Birds-nest Orchids at the mid Lincs site, apparently having a year off. Have not checked for Burnt-tip Orchid in Lincs this year but I guess they should be at their best by now, unless anyone knows different.

Loads of Twayblades and C spotted Orchids Nr Woldingham, Surreyplus a probable greater Butterfly but it wsn't yet open. No bees, Flies, Pyramidal or Scented Orchids wich ought to be around
