Congrats to Paul on the award, he'll have to work even harder now!:t::t:

Well overdue. He has kept alive the Tuesday work parties with his enthusiasm and by being a thoroughly good geaza. He also never stops in last weeks 34 degrees heat he continued the work. We are all indebted to him for the maintenance throughout the summer keeping paths open.
I won't embarrass him as he doesn't read the forum, he's too busy fishing and watching trains. A great bloke:t:
Ably supported by a great Tuesday crew.:t:;)

Must admit I was surprised he wasn't already a recipient given everything you have said above John.

Somewhat overdue IMHO. Congrats to Paul.

Marsh Harriers reported moving elsewhere in the West Midlands today with birds at Doxey Marshes and Alvecote Pools.

PS My autocorrect changes Doxey to Dicey - many a true word ....

Well-deserved recognition for a great chap: he leads from the front and only a piece of cake can entice him to stop.

Presumably the Trust is also recognising his protection of the fish at the Moors ...

Peter

four ravens over north moors, also three buzzards, two jays up salwarpe and pair of little grebe with two very small chicks over behind sand martin box.

I wonder if that is a second brood from the pair of Little Grebe that produced the first chicks this year in the Broadmeadow?

Dave J reports from the Flashes this morning:

33 Avocet (including 22 juvs), 3 juv Redshank, 2 Dunlin, 6 Green Sandpiper, 11 Curlew, 9 LRP (8 juv + chick), 2 Egyptian Geese, 7 juv Shelduck, 6 Shoveler, 3 Teal, Gadwall.

Dave updates from the Moors Pool:

Snipe, 4 Common Tern (+ 2 juv and 2 chicks), 7 Little Grebe (2 juvs), 3 Gadwall, Shoveler, Teal

This evening at Flashes.
Teal 13. Shelduck 7 juvs. Shoveler 3. mallard 220. Curlew 19. Avocet c34 1 juv limping badly and was attacked and severely beaten by the adult from the adjacent breeding brood - it didn't look to healthy but did swim away in deep water. Green sand 6 .LRP 7 (6juvs) plus our chick 13 days old. Lapwing 90. dunlin 3. BHG 750. Herring gull.
Common tern 2.
swift c20 north field. house martin c80. sedge warbler and 3 reed warblers.
The 2 Egyptian geese came into flashes and grazed on saltmarsh in front of hide.

July closed with a very creditable monthly list 95 species (the same as July 2015) with some obvious omissions including Red Kite, Mistle Thrush, Pheasant, Yellow Wagtail, Garden Warbler and Willow Warbler. August should be far more productive with between 105 and 110 species likely.

There were no new additions to the year list of 134 but August brings with it potential for Spotted Redshank, Little Stint, Wood Sandpiper, Curlew Sandpiper, Turnstone, Yellow-legged Gull and Whinchat.
