Passerculus sandwichensis beldingi (1 Viewer)

In Greek myth. Nestor was the old, grey-haired King of Pylos, present at the siege of Troy, renowned for his eloquence, wisdom and prudence. He was said to have lived for 300 years. In ornithology his name is given to grey-capped or hoary-headed birds. Lyman Belding was nearly 90 when he died in November 1917, and was well known for his work on the birds of California and Baja California. He collected the type of this sparrow at San Diego.
