I imagine spring Rosefinch is still a prized bird in UK, the one my son and I heard from our garden very early one May morning in the 1990s at Selsey Bill, then managed to find it on the old Pontins site ranks as my best British birding event, I remember going round and waking up the ex-recorder for Sussex so he and his wife could dash down to the Bill to see it!

A first for me both. I’d have been landed with a female but to get the Male was something else. Found by a local birder at Pant y Sais Fen yesterday.

Here it is showing a bit better.

Lovely! I know they’re not mega rare on the islands like Bardsey or Skokholm, but I imagine it’s still very rare on the mainland in Wales?

Was with a couple of birders with huge lists who hadn’t had a local one before Rich. Though apparently there’s been one on the Gower before.

Far too easy but taken outside of Newport, South Wales, this morning.
