Great lighting this evening! I saw the CHSP and then what I thought at first was a female of the same is, I believe, a Field Sparrow. Would be a first sighting for me, so thought I'd confirm here. :)

So why are they banded as chipping sparrows?

The birds in the photos do not seem to be banded (or ringed, as they say in Britain) at all, the original post just used a shorthand code name to refer to some other birds, said code commonly used by bird banders.
