A male Redstart this morning near Porter's Mill (Tapenhall fishing pool) marks the start of return migration on my patch.

A good weekend for returning passerine migrants on my patch:

2 Whinchats 30/08/14 Porters Mill
3 Yellow Wagtails 31/08/14 Coney Meadow
1 Common Redstart 31/08/14 'Copcut Rise'

Hopefully, just the start of the autumn passage....

Good numbers of migrants moving through the patch throughout August. (Lickhill meadows/quarry area)

First Redstart on the 9th, with 2 on 16th, then 5 (!) on 17th, 4 on 18th, dropping to 1 by the 20th and non since. 5 Wheatear have moved through, 1 on 21st,, 1 on 25th and 3 on 31st. Lesser Whitethroats peaked at 4 on 24th, but there has been a continual presence on patch all month. Vismig has been quiet so far, but hundreds of hirundines moving through almost every day, 2 Tree Pipits over, 1 on 16th and 1 on 24th, with single Meadows on a few dates, increasing to 6 on 31st. Yellow Wagtails moving over regularly, with peaks of 3. Little Egret flew over on 25th which made for a surprise.

A great weekend for migrant passerines on my patch this weekend:

1 Whinchat, 'Copcut Rise' Saturday 06/09/14
1 Wheatear, Salwarpe Sunday 07/09/14
4+ Wheatears, Porters Mill (Tapenhall area) Sunday 07/09/14
1 Tree Pipit, Porters Mill (Tapenhall fishing pool) Sunday 07/09/14
1 Wheatear, Ladywood Sunday 07/09/14
2 Whinchats, 'Copcut Rise' Sunday 07/09/14
1 Stonechat, 'Copcut Rise' Sunday 07/09/14 (Patch tick!)
1 Yellow Wagtail, Salwarpe 07/09/14

In addition, a group of 3+ Spotted Flycatchers on Monday 1st September near Salwarpe were probably passage birds as there has been little indication of breeding in the village this year.

Two Whinchats still present on my patch this evening:

Great birds!
