Afternoon trip with Jesper Hornskov and a group of Canadian birders being led by him. They are stationed at Laotieshan for 3-4 days befor heading to NE Tibet. Black-faced Spoonbill was the main focus and we saw 5. We were very much on a mission and so didn't stop at as many places or stay as long at some places as last Saturday.

Sounds like lots of good birding! I love the first pic - couldn't figure that out on the thumbnail :t: Good shot of the flying spoonbills too. (Is that a great egret with them? Surely not - but I see black feet...)

Out with Gina Sheridan for a quick look for Broad-billed Sandpiper. After finding one we returned to Jinshitan for other target birds. Here is what we saw but were mostly looking for a few species on her wanted list.

Sounds like the season is going quite well for you! As always, enjoy your pics - the honey buzzard does look like a vulture! I struggled to decide if the sparrowhawk and grey-faced buzzard were really different species (some day I will see shapes!). Your little bunting is very handsome, as is the lancy (which I've not taken a good look at before). I'm still waiting to see a drongo in this country!
By the way, do you think the Crested Mynas you have seen are all releases - any signs that they are breeding?

Not much happening today with so much construction going on right beside the productive areas. I couldn't even hear myself think, let alone birds. Could it be that my seven good birding sites are now down to 1.5? Maybe for this year anyway, we'll see what actually arises right next to the river where Ruddy-breasted Crake was breeding last year|8||. I'm told that it will be upscale houses.
Forest Wagtails, Orioles, Striated Herons, Arctic Warblers, and not much more.

I have been out a few times in the last 5 days but had nothing special to report until yesterday when I found a Large Hawk Cuckoo This is new for me and for the area as far as I know. I also recorded an Indian Cuckoo at very close range. This was at Jinshi Golf Course after I managed to get in. By the time I figured out where the birds were I had to leave and the fog was rolling in off the ocean. There has been a lot of fog and mist here in the last week. Temps have struggled to hit 20 (despite what the internet says) and I am wearing a long sleeve shirt with a zipped up spring jacket still. June birding, because it follows May, is depressing but can be surprising if the effort is made to get out. Here is the list from the Jinshi Golf Course (one hour from 4:30-5:30 pm):

Eurasian Kestrel -- 1
Large Hawk Cuckoo -- 1 (life bird for me)
Indian Cuckoo -- 1 seen, 3 more heard.
Eurasian Cuckoo -- 1 heard

Black-naped Oriole -- 4 seen, maybe 10 heard total

Azure-winged Magpie -- 6 actually a big deal in Jinshitan!! I've seen them in the Dalian area about 5 times in 5 years.
Won't mention the other magpies!
Great Tit -- 2 adults and 2 juveniles (juv. Great Tits sounds a lot like Varied Tits and made me very interested for a few minutes)

Great Tit -- 2 adults and 2 juveniles (juv. Great Tits sounds a lot like Varied Tits and made me very interested for a few minutes)
