Coney Meadow and Adjoining Areas (14 Viewers)

A very brief visit to Coney today and not much on offer:

1 Snipe
Reed Warblers
Sedge Warblers
Common Whitethroat
4 Swallows
2 Grey Herons
 
Today's walk on the patch produced:

1 Cuckoo
1 Yellow Wagtail
Peregrine
5 Swifts
High densities of Sedge Warblers in places
Coot with young
Singing Cetti's Warblers
Swallows, House Martins, Lesser and Common Whitethroats, Reed Warblers, Blackcaps and Chiffchaffs, Grey Wagtails, Buzzards.
 
3 Swifts seen today
2 Cuckoos
All the commoner Warblers - notably high numbers of Sedge in some areas.
2 Cetti's Warblers
5 Gadwall
Swallows and House Martins
Yellowhammers

1 Brown Hare

A Garden Warbler singing and showing in tall trees along the canal near Salwarpe Court this morning.
A dozen or more Swifts
Yellow Wagtail over near Tapenhall

Cetti's Warbler

so WestMidsAllDayer hour exercise walk.Knowing DW would go to Coney and carry on down the canal to Ladywood. I went the opposite direction along the canal into Droitwich town.

Nice to see a freshly fledged juvenile Grey Wagtail at Salwarpe this morning.
Little or no signs of migration today but good numbers of Swifts. The usual Warblers and hirundines.

A Great Crested Grebe at the confluence this morning was new for the year on the patch
5 Gadwall over there also plus one on the water.
Better numbers of House Martins than of late plus Swifts and Swallows.
2 or 3 Cuckoos noted

The usual common Warblers

During the full lockdown I managed to see 94 species - these were mostly on the patch but with a few picked up at other sites (e.g. Westwood, Oakley Pool)- but all within walking distance and reached by foot. Others might have been added with the aid of motorised transport as I would have been able to access more sites earlier in the morning. However, I get the impression that passage birds on my patch this year have been quite difficult, with several 'usual' species still missing. I'm hoping that the birding interest will continue for a few more weeks yet.

Passage migration seems to have come to an end, leaving just breeding species on the patch.

Cuckoos easy to see - with multiple sightings around Salwarpe and Ladywood and singles in other places. A female heard calling yesterday.
Water Rail calling from Coney this evening.

Cetti's Warblers near Linacre bridge and Tapenhall
Kingfisher seen yesterday.
Swifts, Swallows, House Martins, the usual Warblers and Woodpeckers, Sparrowhawk, Kestrels, Bizzards, Reed Buntings, Goldcrests, Lapwing, Grey Wagtails, etc.

A large Grass Snake seen today plus a dead Mole.
