Hybrid Barn Swallow x House Martin photos in Hungary (1 Viewer)

Several years ago ( 27/5/2000 ) i saw a strange hirundine at Beesands Ley, South Devon. My notes were as follows;

" At 11:00 hrs. caught glimpse of reddish rump on hirundine. Not fooled into thinking Red-rumped Swallow.Rump hard to see, smaller than Red-rumped but definatly reddish. Watched for 3-4 minutes - not easy when flying around with good numbers of other hirundines. Bird not as long as Red-rumped Swallow. Swallow like tail but House Martin like head. Not seen that tail had streamers. Lost when heavy shower scattered hirundines. Quite possibly House Martin x Swallow hybrid."

The bird was accepted into the 2000 Devon Bird Report as a hybrid.

Perry.
