Thanks for the Id lesson. Was ok on first photo thanks for the confirmation but the last one Orange Damsely was not sure. Is there a site with photos of the various colour stages for the Scarce Blue-tailed Damselfly.

Another ID what animal left this scat. I am assuming it is scat and not a pellet. 45mm in length.

Scat(?)

Hi Tom,

45 mm is quite large for a pellet, but it kinda looks more like a pellet than a scat to me (rounded ends with no elongated bit where it has come out of the ********). I had as close a look as I could and the stuff in it was pretty general: grass seeds, bettle elytrae and what looks like a small snail shell. It could be a pellet from a corvid. On the other hand, it is in the right size range for a piece of fox poo where the ends have been weathered off and foxy has recently got anything furry or feathery (a bit of a combination of circumstances). Sorry I can't be more definitive, but poo at third hand on a photo isn't easy. You could always send it for DNA testing....

I got my first views today of a 2010 immature swallow and saw some fly-by feedings.

Muckrush

Muckrush , which I visited with Paul Hillis yesterday, still has a remarkable no of summering birds: Shoveler, Wigeon, Tufted, Redshank, Bar T. Godwits, Lapwing and (unusually for me) a Greenshank in summer plumage. Also huge numbers of Coot, Mute Swan (and 1 Whooper) and Mallard. A Cuckoo also - they seem more plentiful this year. There might be more there but the near presence of a large herd of cattle, inc. a formidable bull, made us cut short our stay. Care needed.

Marsh Fritillary and Dingy Skipper near Moycullen yesterday.

Beautiful Demoiselle
Greater Butterfly Orchid
Grayling
Large Heath
Keeled Skimmer

Cheers Tom, I'd say most people probably feel the same especially after how quiet it was last year. I'll probably head out with John myself at some stage.
Is Storm Petrel and Puffin already on the list??

County List 2010

167 Puffin
168 Storm Petrel

Was visiting the national school at Roundstone and got a nice surprise of a Little Tern flying up and down the bay. Unfortunlay was not there when the school field trip was under way. But seen 19 species in one hour with senior class.

169 Garden Warbler Kilrainey, Moycullen, this morning. At least 4 birds singing with 2 seen well. All credit to May Cashman and her sister who were sure they heard Garden Warblers singing in the area. A visit this morning proved them right.

In reply to your scat photo. try this for comparison it belongs to a Hooded Crow that has decided to tap on our house windows from around 4am to 7am I assume it is attacking its reflection and left it on the windowsill.

Glaucous Gull still at Nimmo's along with the Glaucous+Herring hybrid

Craig thanks for the comparison shot of the Hooded Crow pellet, re-measured the pellet I have and it is 38mm long not 45mm as I previously posted. (I used a ruler this time).
