Coney Meadow and Adjoining Areas (2 Viewers)

Just briefly seen a distant hirundine sp. over Hawford fishing pools. It was short-tailed and flew like a House Martin - unfortunately couldn't get any more details on it and, at this time of year, rarer species can't be ruled out - however unlikely. Unless I see it again I'm afraid I'll have to chuck it.

2 Common Gulls over there also - an adult and a 1w.

A first winter Common Gull was on floods between Salwarpe and Ladywood on Sunday morning.

30 - 40 Skylarks in one flock over Sinton Lane.

Siskin over near Hawford.

Water Rails calling from near Linacre bridge and Coney Meadow.

Other species seen over the weekend included Kingfisher, Grey Wagtail, Meadow Pipits, Kestrel, Buzzard, Sparrowhawk, Coot, Raven, Treecreeper, Coal Tits, Goldcrests, Fiedfares, Redwings, Mistle Thrushes, Cormorantsm Grey Herons, Green and Great Spotted Woodpeckers.
 
A male Shoveler and 10+ Wigeon on floods near the confluence this morning.
This weekend, Cetti's Warblers included a singing Male near Linacre bridge and another, probably a female at Coney.
A Yellowhammer over Coney yesterday and another near Sinton Lane this morning. A flock of about 30 Skylarks there. Meadow Pipits in various places, Water Rails at Linacre bridge and Mildenham, a few Siskins over calling, Fieldfares and Redwings, Nuthatch, Coal Tit, Goldcrests, Reed Buntings, Linnets, Kestrel, Buzzards, Sparrowhawks, Jay's, Bullfinches, Mistle Thrushes, Song Thrushes, Grey Wagtails, Kingfishers, Green and Great Spotted Woodpeckers, etc.
 
A presumed female Cetti's Warbler showed very well at the eastern end of Coney reedbed on Sunday morning. Much further down the valley, a male Cetti's Warbler was singing near Tapenhall and another male was singing near Linacre bridge. Water Rails heard along the canal in various places.

On Friday, a Peregrine was seen from Copcut Lane, perched on top of one of the pylons.

Much of the usual for the time of year - Winter Thrushes, Meadow Pipits, Goldcrests, Coal Tits, Cormorants, etc.

5 Common Snipe flushed by a dog walker from flooded field between Salwarpe and Ladywood this morning and more flew from Coney at dusk.

2 Yellowhammers over Coney plus others along Sinton Lane.
A Cetti's Warbler near Mildenham yesterday and today.
The usual winter species seen including Fieldfares, Redwings, Meadow Pipits, Skylarks, Mistle Thrushes, Nuthatch, Treecreeper, Goldcrests, Reed Bunting, Cormorants, etc.

2 Ravens around Porter's Mill
Grey Wagtail, Nuthatch, Coal Tit, Gildcrests, Linnets, Buzzards, Sparrowhawks, Kestrels, Green and Great Spotted Woodpeckers, Redwings, Fieldfares, Meadow Pipit, Reed Buntings, etc.
 
A Woodcock flew over near Coney at dusk this evening and flew over Droitwich Woods. A couple of Snip flew from Coney calling. A Water Rail called from the reedbed.

A Little Grebe was on the river between Mildenham and Hawford this morning.
At least 21 Gadwall were on floods around the confluence.
Two Cetti's Warblers were near Linacre bridge this morning and another showed well at Coney Meadow yesterday morning.
Other species noted included Grey Herons, Cormorants, Nuthatch, Treecreepers, Goldcrests, Kestrel, Buzzards, Canada Geese, Mute Swans, etc.
 
A very sorry looking sparrowhawk was perched in the rain in the small ash tree on Copcut lane by the Maize maze yesterday. Tawny owls very vocal last night and this morning opposite Salwarpe village hall.

20+ Wigeon and 2 Gadwall near the confluence yesterday.
Little Grebe on floods between Mildenham and Hawford yesterday. Cetti's Warbler near Linacre Bridge.
Coot on Tapenhall pool this morning.
Large flocks of mixed finches - Chaffinches, Greenfinches and Linnets near Woodbury cottage and near Salwarpe - Copcut Lane.
A few Siskins over, winter Thrushes, a few Meadow Pipits, Skylarks, Grey Wagtail, Kestrel, Sparrowhawk, Buzzards, Coal Tits, Nuthatches, woodpeckers, Cormorants, Mistle Thrushes, etc.
 
A pair of Goosander near the confluence this morning plus at least 15 Gadwall and 9 Wigeon.
Cetti's singing near Linacre Bridge again.
The fields around Sinton Lane were teeming with winter Thrushes- hundreds of them, mainly Fieldfares - plus some Starlings. About a dozen Meadow Pipits, 2 Yellowhammers and 6 Skylarks also.
 
quick walk down to coney along the canal only,18 birds ,Blackbird,wren,robin,c,crow,magpie,jackdaw,goldfinch,long tailed,great,blue tits,house sparrow,mute swan,mallard,morhen,cormorant,starling,wood pigeon and BHG. quite a lot of work also taken place at the area too.

Other species seen over the last few days include Grey Wagtails, Kingfisher, winter Thrushes, Meadow Pipits, Linnets, 100+ Chaffinches near Salwarpe, Cormorants, Ravens, Kestrel, Buzzards, etc.
 
Highlights this morning included a Cetti's Warbler at Coney reedbed, a female Blackcap near Salwarpe and good views of a Peregrine on a mast near Middleton Grange.
 
Egyptian Goose Hawford Lock flew up the Salwarpe valley.
6 Lapwings over Hawford fishing pools earlier.
2 Coots on Tapenhall pool.
 
Coney Meadow this evening - Water Rail in flight and calling, Cetti's Warbler calling, several Snipe flew out, Meadow Pipit over.
