Mallorca 2019 (2 Viewers)

Morning walk round Llenaire produced, still a couple of Redstarts, 2 Willow warbs, Male Pied Fly, 6 Tree Pipit South and a Flava wag.
Minimum of 37 Stone Curlew in ploughed field, but calls from a couple of grassier fields suggested a number more.

A long Eared owl was in flight late last night on edge of PP.

Had a flock of Bee-eaters fly south (frustratingly heard only) on Sunday afternoon heard from our villa - which is up in the hills behind S’Albufereta. Also a Pied Flycatcher in the wooded area at Parc de la Gola yesterday afternoon. Plenty of Stone Curlew calling at night

A light movement of Flava wags this morning over Port de Pollensa, Inc a Couple of Tawny Pipits and a probable 'heard only' Ortolan.

An evening walk to the lighthouse at Porto Petro produced 244 Scopoli’s shearwaters and the welcome diversion of 3 Balearic shearwaters.
It was a beautiful calm evening which made seawatching an absolute pleasure as opposed to my memories of being huddled up on the Kent coastline having to contend with biting cold winds and rain.

Hi, are the stone curlew hanging about in a particular location? Thanks, Paul

Walk to Ca'n Cuarassa 07.00-09.00
1's & 2's of Flava wags through with a steady trickle of Swallow.
11 Spotless Starling seemed a good number.
3 Green Sands, 3 Tawny Pipits, 2 Hoopoe and 4 Whinchat together were the best of the rest.

Best looked for in the newly ploughed field on the right, heading from the Llenaire roundabout on the back road heading for the Llenaire Hotel.
Early morning seems to be best when there more active, usually strung out on the other side of the pylons. Later in the morning they seem to settle down and blend in with ruts.

Day out birding

Cami de Llenaire - 07:00ish, Stone Curlew (I counted six but could have been more!).

S’Albufera - Purple Galinule seemed to be concentrated from the hide to the left of the Vistors Centre (couldn’t see any elsewhere); also on same body of water 1 x glossy ibis, 1 x cattle egret and at least 6 curlew sandpiper.

Scop's Owl calling near to Pollensa Park Hotel 12. 45 (Port de Pollensa). 1st I've had in the vacinity of the town in bi-annual visits for 3 years, when before they were a nightly occurrence.
Probably a passage bird.
Given me the biggest birding smile so far!!

Walk to Alburfereta: 06.45-09.45
2 Green Sand, 1 AdW Curlew Sand and 4 Stilts on Scrape behind Pollentia Club Hotel.
F/1stW Golden Oriole in Trees to left of Hotel (07.45)
At Alburfereta, 6 Little Ringed Plover, 14 Greenshank, 6+ Purple Heron, 2 GW Egret, 2F Marsh Harrier, 4 Stilts and an Ad Woodchat Shrike.

Cami de Llenaire: This morning at 7.45am. At least 21 Stone Curlew in ploughed field.
Boquer Valley: 8.00am-10.15am. 3 Pied Flycatcher (1 near car park, 2 by large boulders), 2 Blue Rock Thrush, 1 Wheatear, numerous Spotted Flycatcher.
S’Albufera: 11.00am-12.30pm. 3 Black-winged Stilt, 1 Marbled Duck, 1 Green Sandpiper, 2 Purple Swamphen, Red-knobbed Coot, Marsh Harrier, Zitting Cisticola.
Villa (near Alcudia, set back in hills behind S’Albufereta): 1pm. 4 Bee-eater, heading north. Woodchat Shrike, Hoopoe.
