Hi all

This one to me looks slightly like lots of things and not exactly like any of them. Eucosma? Epinotia?

South coast, single specimen came to light last night. Please opine.

Immediately looking at the excellent Bird-dropping Tortrix Moths of the British Isles, I am drawn to Epinotia bilunana/ramella rather than the likes of Eucosma campoliliana. I would say Epinotia ramella on the more solid dorsal patch and the later flight period:-

Someone showed me that book recently - I had no idea it existed. There is a companion volume for moths associated with conifers.

A very worthwhile purchase if you can get it.

Jon Clifton - one of the principal authors - runs ALS. A birder of old that nailed the Least Tern when it visited Colne Point from Rye Harbour and someone who spent a few years birding on Shetland thereafter having moved there. A really good chap.

Gotta get me a copy of that book, if only for the title. It would sit nicely alongside Enjoying Moths!

Roy Leverton is also a really good chap. I visited his house once as I was travelling around Scotland with a friend of his and he showed us a Swordgrass. :t:

My mistake. I think that this is now Crocidosema plebejana. I had one this week.....
