Spotted flycatchers now arriving, Pep saw a Montagu’s Harrier at Maria de la Salut and a few Golden orioles have been seen. Also a couple of dazzling blue Rollers. More to come I hope. Can Cuarassa is the best place to see them, early May sitting on the overhead cables. Mike

Meeting up with Kevin and Phil in the south was fun. Firstly at the Cap de Ses Salines, 13 Oystercatcher flew east, a good number for this scarce bird in Mallorca.
A superb all dark Eleanora’s falcon kept us company for a while.
Then to Sant Jordi salt pans where Phil found a Sanderling.
Later at the saltpans, Salobrar, Curlew sandpiper, Wood sandpiper, some Garganey and a Marsh sandpiper which I failed to see. Lots of Little stint and 90 Flamingoes.
Mike

Montagu’s harriers, two I believe, have been seen on the Central Plain.
I have also received quite a few reports of Golden oriole being seen and an Icterine Warbler in the north. Mike

Continuing with the Osprey theme,
Also Kentish Plover,
And Redshank all Salbufera 21st march.
Steve.

There was a Sanderling at the new platform of the Albufereta and at Maristany we found a nice Black necked Grebe.

Cheers
Martin

A Collared flycatcher on Cabrera found and photographed by Dani and Pep is a major rare.
One was present last year at Albufera and many visiting birders managed to connect.
Also a Cream coloured courser on Ibiza. I often dream of finding one of these on Malllorca one day, I feel sure one will appear at some point. I just hope I will be there when it happens.
I am in the UK now and will be in California for three weeks from Monday so thanks for keeping the news coming. I will still post what I can but all news from visitors would be much appreciated. Thanks, Mike

Hello!
A male Red-footed Falcon reported by an english couple, was seen the same day not far from the Depuradora road. Could be the same one? or another bird?
And a Roller in port de Sóller last Monday.

Regards,
Cristina.

Philip watched a group of 45 Honey Buzzard pass over Calviá yesterday.
My thoughts are that the majority of migrating raptors in the spring enter the Island around the south-west, ie Andratx, Santa Ponsa etc.
I have been at the Cap de Ses Salines often enough to know that very little enters Mallorca from that area.
The north west is of course still the best place by far to watch birds of prey leave the Island. Mike
