Coney Meadow and Adjoining Areas (7 Viewers)

2 Spotted Flycatchers in Knight's Grove near Sinton Lane entrance this morning plus Cuckoo, 3 Nuthatches and Coal Tit. One Brown Hare also. 3 Yellowhammers along Sinton Lane.

2 Lapwings over Mildenham. Cuckoo there also.
1 Great Crested Grebe at the confluence plus a Greylag and a Cormorant.
A Grey Heron caught an Eel but dropped it after it tried to twist itself around its neck.
2 Grey Wagtails
Little Owl Linacres paddocks.
2 Coots on Tapenhall pool.

3 Ravens around Salwarpe yesterday and a Cuckoo.
 
A couple of juvenile Treecreepers in the hedge near Coney yesterday evening.
My first Meadow Brown of the year near Droitwich Woods.
 
A Hobby near Hawford lock this morning and a Sand Martin but not much on the floods there.
A Cuckoo between Hawford and Mildenham.
 
Two Oystercatchers on floods near Hawford lock this morning plus female Mandarin and Greylag.
Pair of Gadwall by the fishing pools and Cuckoo calling.
 
A Hobby over Moat Farm this morning plus Lesser Whitethroat and Yellowhammers near there. A Hare at Knight's Grove.

2 Common Terns over near the confluence plus 3 Lapwings, 3 Tufted Ducks and 2 Great Crested Grebes on floods there.

Sand Martin over near the fishing pools. Cuckoos near Mildenham and Ladywood. 2 Ravens over near there.

A brood of 3 fledged Swallows near Porter's Mill - the first fledged ones I've seen this year.

3 Coot chicks now quite well grown on Tapenhall pool.

Just one Glow-worm last night - along the verge of the Roman Way.
 
Fairly quiet, birdwise, this weekend.

Cuckoos at Salwarpe and Tapenhall
Little Owl at Linacres paddocks
Yellowhammers along Sinton Lane and near Chatley
The usual warblers
3 Sand Martins and a few Swallows roosted at Coney this evening
Swifts and House Martins, Sparrowhawk and Kestrel
Kingfisher near Mildenham yesterday

A Noctule bat over Coney this evening.

Insects included numerous Marbled Whites, Ringlets, Meadow Browns plus several Painted Ladies, Red Admrals and Large Skippers. Several Black-tailed Skimmers also.

4 Glow worms this evening - 2 Gorsey Bank, 1 Hopyard Wood and 1 along the Roman Way.

Little Owl Linacres paddocks this morning
Juvenile Treecreepers and Green Woodpeckers this morning and several of the local Swallows now have fledged young. Juvenile Coal Tit on Friday at Hawford.
Other birds seen this weekend include Mistle Thrushes, Swifts, Grey Herons, Goldcrest, Coot + young, the common Warblers, House Martins, Nuthatch, Reed Buntings and Bullfinch.
Butterflies included Marbled Whites, Ringlets, Meadow Browns and Odonata included Black-tailed Skimmer.
 
10 Glow Worms noted last night - 3 Gorsey Bank, 3 between the allotments and Roman Way, 2 along the Roman Way verge and 2 along the railway track. 8 of these were in new places.

A couple of Sand Martins and 9 Swallows roosted at Coney reedbed. Reasonable numbers of Swifts around.

A Brown Hare was seen along Sinton Lane Sunday morning.
 
12 Glow worms seen last night - 2 Gorsey Bank, 2 Hopyard Wood, 1 by the allotments and 7 along the Roman Way. 9 of these were in new positions.

Quiet, bird-wise over the weekend. The highlights were a flock of 9 Ravens over Hawford and a Little Owl at Linacres paddocks.

About 25 swallows and a few Sand Martins over Coney at dusk last night and around 40 Swifts in the general area.

My first Gatekeepers and Small Skippers of the year on Friday plus 2 Ravens over Coney Meadow.

A Peregrine between Salwarpe and Ladywood on a pylon plucking its prey.

Unfortunately I missed the Great White Egret that flew from Westwood
