House sparrow nest under construction? (1 Viewer)

Does any other cavity nesting bird start its nest in this way? I remember from last spring that the chickadees began their nestbuilding with moss, and first carried away the wood chips in the nest box. Here, material is simply being added, and it looks a lot like the handiwork of a house sparrow.

I think there is a forum rule against posting pictures of nests...

Based on the messiness, I think House Sparrow sounds about right.
