Anyone here use pastels? (1 Viewer)

lovely colours and a great composition, chicks running in all directions with the adult looking as though it's having a hard time keeping track of where they are.
 
Great pastelwork, it's a somewhat a mystery to me how they work (and how it's possible to get so much detail with them!). Great work in this thread!

Thanks Nick and Elina for the kind words.. I had planned to do a bigger piece for this composition, but a quick sketch developed into this! I use a combination of soft pastels for the background and for blocking in the areas then conte crayons for the details.
