There was a definite feel of Spring in the air at the Flashes this morning. A Kingfisher flew from the west bank of the Sailing Pool and was joined by another as they made their way across the water. A Song Thrush sang from a perch along the path to the Flashes, and a Great Spotted Woodpecker could be heard drumming from the orchard beyond the 3rd flash. There was also a Skylark in song flight - although I couldn't hear it above the calls of the Lapwings - over the fields of Hobden Hall Farm. The shape of a Little Owl perched on the roof of the barn at Sagebury Farm in the sunshine then caught my eye, it's identity being confirmed on closer inspection via my scope.

I then went over to the Moors Pool to view the pair of Pintails that had turned up this morning. There were also several Snipe on view on the Promontory, but no Jack Snipe was seen. A final highlight of the morning came when another Kingfisher perched up on a bullrush on the Northern edge of the North Moors Pool.

And a few, Not so much action Shots.
Pair of Pintails spotted by Bob this morning, keen-eyed as ever.

spoke to the chap and wife who spotted the Golden Plover. He said it was there for 20 mins before being spooked with the Lapwings (workers over on water treatment area) Bird was then heard in the transmitter field after but didn't return with them later, all before I turned up :-C several scopes scoured the flock for some time but with no luck. Poor photos of flock returning one of the times from the field taken from cuckoo hide.hope someone got it later

work party tomorrow

We will be 'opening up' Swampy bottom at the causeway . By that I mean we will be building a dead hedge , to replace the log/brash pile that is currently in situ. We will maintain the 'swamp effect' of the area that is so attractive to little egret and water rail.
The weather looks good apart from early mist, so we should get a full morning in. The dead hedge line will ultimately run the whole length of the East Marsh.
