Upton Warren (9 Viewers)

Just a reminder that the West Midlands Autumn All-Day Birdwatch is taking place on SATURDAY 2ND SEPTEMBER.

As Upton Warren was the instigator of this event, there is reserve pride at stake as we go up against the likes of Belvide, Middleton Lakes, Sandwell Valley, Marsh Lane, Venus Pool, Grimley etc; hopefully more and more sites will get involved.

The usual bacon butties and cake will be on offer during the day along with the typical mix of hardcore birding and socialising. Not sure we will be able to match the heady heights of the totals achieved during the Spring event but its always a good day.

I am sure Mike will post his usual contribution of some day total statistics and a tick list closer to the date.

Wood Sandpiper, Black-tailed Godwit, 8 Avocet, 3 Green Sandpiper, Common Sandpiper, 15 Curlew, juvenile Redstart, Willow Warbler, 2 Lesser Whitethroat, 2 Shoveler, 21 Teal, 3 Peregrine.

Work party today-Moors

A great turnout today considering its not yet the 'official' season. THANKS to all 14.
Bob O. Bobby P. Bob R. Jim B. John C. Julie W. Keith M. Kim W. Paul M. Peter E. Roger S. Terry W. Tony B and me.
And welcome to Julie and Kim W. And a special thanks to Julie wjo soent a good few hours cleaning out the East Hide. She also cleaned the windows. Could I make an appeal to all visitors, please take all your rubbish home. This includes water bottles, coffee cups as well as sweet rappers etc. It would be a shame for all Julie's effort to be in vain. :t:

Today we cleared thick, overgrown vegetation from three of the main islands in Amy's Marsh.
This included strimming Pool island. Hand pulling annuals from the main shingle island and finally digging out flag iris from snipe island.
All the vegetation was led into the water to provide good or dabbling duck and loading platforms.
Photos
1. At start of work
2. work in progress
3. a very clean hide - help us keep it this way
4. after the work
5. snipe island - keep checking for spotted crake8-P
Also a classic cake from Tony - Lemon drizzle:eat:
