PLEASE READ FIRST :)
Inspired by the wonderful service that the "Binocular Bargains" thread started by Kevin Purcell provides to the Binocular Forum, I thought it would be very worthwhile (and long overdue) to start a similar thread dealing with Photography gear Bargains for all the snappers on here. :t:

Non-Commercial Member driven, and affiliate free, and following BF guidelines, please feel free to post fair dinkum deals in this thread.

This is designed to benefit us, and not be a you-know-what-measuring place of dissent or platform for fanbois/girlz. If you have a helpful comment to make, then make it briefly, and move on. It is a thread to be filled with bargains - not dross.

Include:
  • Product name (in title) /and deal
  • Expiring time frames
  • Supplier
  • Any free shipping /accessories, etc if applicable
  • First hand reputation confirmation if any
  • Any other comment
  • A link to the product on the selling website

As always - Buyer Beware - but let's try and put the best of our collective wisdom from the BF community forward, with the best, most reputable deals we know of. Please steer clear of dodgy brothers, and known poor/unsavoury service, or outright shysters.
THANKS :)

Presumably the aim is to get photographers hooked into the new ecosystems.
That would explain this proliferation of deals on just launched cameras.
It does suggest increased competitive pressures though.

usa.canon.com has discounts on many refurbished cameras and some lenses. Some up to almost $500 off (6Dii and 80d w/ 18-135, for example). They also have the 100-400 IS ii for $1760.

$500 Off ! ($1099.99 down to $599.95)
For a "limited time only" from Adorama

I love my Nikon V3, but you'd want to add the (optional) EVF. The grip can also help. To find such a EVF at an affordable price can be difficult. Imo the $600 offer would be a bargain only if EVF + grip were included.

Since the N1 is discontinued, bargains are getting rare. Lately I saw a heavily used, refurbished CX 70-300 lens with a 1-year warranty offered for Euro 299. That's cheap, compared to the former list price, obviously coming with the "discontinued" handicap.

In terms of value for money, probably this Nikon V2 ("as new") offered from a dealer for Euro 229 is the better deal. Personally I prefer the V2 due to its better autofocus over the V3.

"This deal is likely for a grey market product and a Canon warranty isn’t guaranteed, but in our experience, you should be covered." .... This part probably indicates further investigation and confirmation is required. I have no first hand experience with this supplier - I just posted it because it is interesting that a recently released format and mount and newly designed lens has a near 20% discount already. :cat:

Seems there is market pressure on the suppliers, pretty much as expected in a period of stagnant demand.
It would be surprising if there were no casualties in this sector.
Yes, it seems to be chronic shoelace gazing and reversion to old school sales and marketing techniques. At this still early stage of the Mirrorless roll out it's about putting bums in mounts.

Interesting strategies so far from Canon (entry level bodies) and Nikon (mid - high level bodies). Both pretty tepid efforts really. Canon for the mismatch in low end bodies but only high end glass, and Nikon for it's very thin and slow to materialize native Z lens range and road map, and for not overtaking Sony Mirrorless AF-wise. Canon seem even further away Mirrorless sports AF-wise.

Meantime, Sony seems to have upped the game considerably with it's Eye tracking AF.

I think we are already seeing the slowdown of the DSLR development pipeline, and pressure on margins in all categories. Market, and Business Division viability are then next in line .....

Size-wise it seems that Canon could swallow Nikon whole with nary a hiccup. Nikon do fight pretty hard though. The outlook for even smaller players is not at all rosy ..... CP+ 2019 was pretty hard to watch.

Maybe a seperate thread in the appropriate section, has anyone any experience of eye af and especially animal eye af. Is it as good as the Sony promotional video?
