This picture was taken today October 6th in SE Minnesota along the Mississippi River. Can anyone identify it for me.

Looks to be a Ruby-crowned Kinglet. The ruby crown is usually well hidden under the head feathers.
 
Agree, Ruby-crowned Kinglet. Either a male with the red crest concealed as KC says or a female (females lack the red crest).
