I firmly believe it's sonar from submarines. My alleged conspiracy theory is that its from an Asian country sailing in the shadows of islands that then affects cetaecans in those areas. I have no scientific training, qualification or knowhow just a sprinkling of t'internet research. Also I understand that strandings have occurred for many a year, particularly amongst pilot whales and around these and nearby islands.

Strandings pre-date submarines, so even if true (which I doubt) its very far from the whole story.

Pilot Whales do seem to have a particular death wish, compared to other whales.
