I am an amateur, have a Nikon D100 and am considering buying an f3.5 ED IF AI-s 400mm lens. I frequent a local park that has lots of birds, particularly wading birds and owls. My current gear does not give me enough lens power to effectively reach many shots so I'm hoping this lens can be an inexpensive yet effective purchase. Any thoughts will ost certainly help. Thanks.

Hello tcloth and welcome to the forum on behalf of the staff and moderators. I think if you post in Nikon forum, someone is sure to answer.

Welcome...I am a Canon guy but I know that Tamron has a new lens out 200-600... Not available yet but that might give you enough reach but not sure of the cost yet as it has just been announced. Check out the lens and see if it might fit the bill..... jim

Hi tcloth and a warm welcome from me too.

I'm sure you will enjoy it here. I hope to hear about all the birds you see when out and about and will look forward to seeing some of your pictures in the Gallery too.
