Bargain offers on books

Bibliophile Books currently have the Van Perlo Field Guide to South American Passerines on offer at just £8 plus postage (£2.80 if you order via Amazon). It usually sells at about £27 so a good offer for a useful book.

Thanks for the heads up Steve, actually cheaper as a used book, said to be in great condition, £6.99 + £2.80 on Amazon

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/offer-li...=used&qid=&sr=

Probably worth buying at this price but on a par with the Helm guides by Ridgely and Tudor?

Mine just came this morning. Illustrations are mainly a bit sketchy and nothing like as good as the Ridgeley and Tudor book but for £8 it is worth having as it is comprehensive in coverage.

Hmm, has to be questionable then as to how useful it is in ID'ing the really tricky species?

Have to agree though as we both said above, for this price, you may as well have it and I just bought it for £9.79.

Eyes open now for the non passerine volume for a similar price.

Cheers

A

I started this thread hoping that anyone who comes across a bargain offer could mention it here, not just for this one example.

Feel free to use it !

Bloomsbury have their annual pre-Christmas 45% off sale on at the moment (until this Sunday).

Some good deals on Helm ID guides (e.g. Aus bird guide for £14) and the Poyser series but, unfortunately, it doesn't extend to pre-publication offers on the books I am waiting for in early-2018!

Bob Flood has reduced the price on the superb Albatrosses issue of the Multimedia north Atlantic seabirds series - and it will not be reprinted once stocks are sold out. £24.99 on his website.

It is a very good price but I assume it won't stand as the listing is quite out of date.

The passerines volume is now to be published as 2 books, at £85 each.

Under Featherstone, rather than Helm, according to nhbs.

He won't be getting my dosh unless there is a hefty discount. I've heard some stories about him and I don't like photo guides anyway.

I don't know if ALL 'bookies' are the same, but ex library stock and the stamps and labels within are a bit of a no-no.

Good for a field guide or similar but not a collection e.g Poysers

PostScript books have a limited quantity of new bird books but are worth a look. Birds Of West Africa and Birds Of The West Indies are worth considering. Although dated these two volumes are superb still. Type birds in the search box.

Even that was a good price, I think I paid almost £100 for mine.

It's an old book now but at that price, people should be snapping it up!

I agree with Andy, at that price it is worth buying another copy! I paid £70 for mine in August 1990.

Just ordered this from NHBS:

Hopefully should come in handy for a trip to Strumble this Autumn.

oh for goodness sake ...

I don't know where 'Featherstone' comes from. Keeps happening. I thought it was an Amazon thing, but clearly not.

Anyway HWPB is a Helm title, of course. And it's being sold as a pack of two volumes.

On what site Bubbs?

Maybe updated in some way or newly available as an ebook?
