Much in the way of butterflies and odonata today Des?

How old was the struggling Avocet youngster?

No W L Hairstreaks or Marbled White, but Painted Ladies, Red Admiral, Small and Large Skippers were about + the usual Meadow Browns and Ringlets.

On the dragonfly front, 4-Spotted Chaser, B T Skimmer and Brown Hawker were the notable species today. Unfortunately, the N Moors pool dug out a few years ago is getting over vegetated (too many trees) and the pool area is now quite small and difficult to see.

I would say that the unfortunate Avocet chick was a couple of weeks old.
