Reunion Island Grey white-eye by Dr.Yann Bourgeois. (1 Viewer)

I don’t have a link to the above, but his recent article in various media appears to be groundbreaking stuff, regarding the five sp of the Grey white-eye. The Island being c31 miles long and holding the five “types” all being mostly separated by lava flow, altitude, rain forest and river.

Having all evolved “almost” in isolation with just occasional hybridisation which has “thought” to have been unsuccessful regarding any fertile offspring.

The intriguing find was that each sp has a different DNA...with some sp being just 10km apart! To my “unscientific” mind it asks the question...as to how “pivotal” is DNA sequencing when looking at eg...Lesser Whitethroat and Chiffchaff races across a far greater cline...fascinating?

Cheers
