Hi! I’m wondering if anyone can shed light on this cardinal behavior? We have had a male cardinal - without a crest - who has been at our house since spring. Aside from having no crest, he appears strong & healthy. But, he does have annoying behavior. He lands on our car windows & mirrors and house window sills and pecks at the glass. Of course, that means that he leaves droppings all over the car & window sill. He has flown inside of our garage to get to the car! Any ideas on what might be going on with this crestless cardinal?

What the male is doing is seeing his reflection in the mirror and the windows as another male in his territory and he is trying to drive his suspected interloper out of the area.
The no crest would indicate either molting or mite infestation.
