Thrushes - Hangzhou, China. Jan 08

Dear All,

Attached are shots of 2 thrushes and I'd really appreciate help with ID.

The first ("a" images) - is this a male Grey-backed Thrush ? Seen skulking in undergrowth on a rainy day.

The second set ("c" images) - I think this is either female Grey-backed or female Black-breasted, but I can't figure out which. Looking at the OBC site, females of these species look identical to me!

Please can somebody help ?

Many thanks in advance.

Kev

Hi Kev,

All Grey-backed Thrushes, sexes as you point out.

Two things against the Black-backed: 1) I think its only in SW China and Hangzhou is in the East and secondly the Black-backed would be darker on the breast than your photo.

Cheers
Mike
